Welcome,
To Our Tribute to 9-11

To the families and victims in
New York, Washington DC, and Pennsylvania

Where Were You?

My morning of 9-11, started out like any other. I awoke to my alarm clock around 6:45a.
I came out of my room about 7:00a to find my girls preparing for school.

(As my satellite dish has a scheduling feature, I am able to bookmark programs to watch.)
I turned on the TV to find the The Carol Duvall Show starting.

Not being in the mood to watch arts & crafts, I changed the channel to CNN Headline News
to see what had happened around the world during the night. When the station tuned in,
I couldn't believe what I was seeing. With the word "LIVE" in the upper left corner, I learned
a plane had hit the North Tower of the WTC and the tower was burning.
"Not again!" - was all I could say. My girls asked me what was wrong.

I was explaining about the previous attack on the WTC, back in '92/'93, when I saw another
airplane come into view. "What the hell?!?" --- "Oh my God!!" I watched in horror as the second
airplane hit the South Tower of the WTC near the midsection of the building. My girls were trying
to get their shoes on when they asked me what happened. I told them that another airplane hit the
other tower. Needing to get to school, I told my girls, I would tell what had happened when they come
home from school.

As they were leaving, my husband came in from work. Not clear about what was going on, he asked.
I informed him that two airplanes hit the WTC Towers in New York.

Next we hear that a third plane has crashed into the Pentagon. As a third report states that a fourth plane
has crashed into a field in Pennsylvania, it is unknown if these crashes are related.

With chaos and uncertainty as to what is going on, all commercial, private, and medical aircraft are grounded
or told to land at the closest airport. The White House, surrounding buildings, and the Pentagon are evacuated.

Before 12 Noon, the WTC Towers would be reduced to about 7 stories of hot, burning, crumpled debris.
Learning that each tower could hold about 25,000 employees, the Nation, as well as the rest of the
World begins to mourn the loss of nearly 50,000+ people.

By 1:00p MDT, it is estimated that approximately 7,000 employees working in the WTC Towers
are missing and possibly dead. About 3-4 weeks later, the number of missing/killed is reduced by about 1/2 to 3,500.

The most anyone could or can ask is "why us?" "what did we do to deserve this attack on our country?"
Only one person can answer these questions. I doubt our country will ever know.

In one of President Bush's speech, the following said much more just words.
"We will not Tire, We will not Falter, and We will not FAIL!"

Five Marines and a Navy hospital corpsman
raise the flag on Mount Suribachi, Iwo Jima,
using a piece of Japanese pipe as a mast,
on 23 Feb. 1945.

Three of the flag raisers were later killed
as the fighting raged on.

The Iwo Jima flag raising photo and subsequent
statue, came to symbolize being a Marine.

When I watched terrorists attack the WTC, like everyone else, disbelieve and shock were all I
could think of. Later, when I saw the firefighters raising the WTC Flag from the debris, I flashed
back to the Iwo Jima Flag raising statue. Spirit and pride gave this country a new strength of freedom.

Like President Bush said, "These acts of mass murder were intended to frighten our nation into chaos and
retreat. But they have failed. Our country is strong. A great people has been moved to defend a great nation.
Terrorist attacks can shake the foundations of our biggest buildings, but they cannot touch the foundation of America.
These acts shatter steel, but they cannot dent the steel of American resolve. None of us will ever forget this day, yet we go
forward to defend freedom and all that is good and just in our world.

This website is created in the memory of those victims who were lost in the terror acts of Sept. 11, 2001.

Freedom & Sacrifice

In the words of a Child. On 14 November 2001, I was invited to the Great
American Teach Inn at Lakewood Elementary School, grades K-5th. I asked
the children to write on a sheet of paper what they thought the name
of this picture should be. A fourth grader submitted the name "Freedom & Sacrifice"

Standing Tall

In this country we stand tall, a nation proud and free.
Now one day has changed it all, and soiled our liberty.
In horror we watched the towers fall, our terror burned inside.
After the fires came the rain, as if Heaven itself had cried.
Those behind this gruesome deed died as men of shame.
Now every single American will never be the same.
But what they didn't know, in trying to change this land,
was that we would soon grow stronger, united we would stand.
And like our lady Liberty, who still stands tall and proud.
We see her flame still burning, and we call her name out loud.
Our nation's flag is proudly seen, waving everywhere.
Red, white and blue reminds us of how we got her there.
In a show of love and faith, we'll hold our banners high.
And through the tears we will rebuild. Again we'll reach the sky.
The world sees us crying, they are crying too.
But we will soon be whole again. We will rise anew.
They say what doesn't kill us makes us stronger, this is true.
For forever we'll stand proud, behind our red, white and blue.

God Bless The USA

If tomorrow all the things were gone I'd worked for all my life,
And I had to start again with just my children and my wife,
I'd thank my lucky stars to be living here today,
'Cause the flag still stands for freedom, and they can't take that away.

And I'm proud to be an American,
Where at least I know I'm free,
And I won't forget the men who died,
Who gave that right to me,
And I'll gladly stand up next to you and defend her still today,
'Cause there ain't no doubt, I love this land
God bless the USA.

From the lakes of Minnesota to the hills of Tennessee,
Across the plains of Texas, from sea to shining sea,
From Detroit down to Houston, and New York to L.A.
Well, there's pride in every American heart, and it's time we stand and say,

And I'm proud to be an American,
Where at least I know I'm free,
And I won't forget the men who died,
Who gave that right to me,
And I'll gladly stand up next to you and defend her still today,
'Cause there ain't no doubt, I love this land,
God bless the USA.
