k y o t o ... kiyomizudera temple views Magnificent Views, Kyoto ---- One of Kyoto's main attractions, Kiyomizudera (Pure Water Temple) is renowned for its impressive views of the city and surrounding countryside. One visitor, Kooka3, had this to say about the magnificent temple: "I strongly recommend checking out this place! Regardless of your religious beliefs (or lack of beliefs), I think this is an amazingly peaceful and spiritual place if you open yourself up to it. The temple is over 1000 years old. Many parts have obviously been rebuilt, fixed, updated, whatever -- but standing in a place that has been used for a millenium is awe-inpiring, and rare for people coming from the "New World" where old usually means it was built a couple hundred years ago. Make sure you check out the sacred springs which are supposed to have healing powers. The name of the temple means "pure water." Take some time to get a birds-eye-view of the city. Also, make sure you wander over all the grounds - there are little temples tucked into out of the way spots. |
