17 Century

A calendar print depicting the hazards many of our ancestors encountered as they sought "Freedom" from Tyranic opressions. Please enter the portals of our"Welding Links Legacies" with reverence. Meet our family "Standard Bearers". Share their heartaches and triumphs.

Our first Colonial ancestors were descendants of Sir John Bourchier, who's ship went down after about 1623, The first Earl of Bath John Bourchier, restored the "Roman Baths" at Bath England, along with Thomas Wood.   The family was relatives and followers of Oliver Cromwell. Oliver Cromwell was married to Elizabeth Bourchier. After King Henry 1 was decapitated, Oliver Cromwell and his followers soon lost favor and were exciled because they were of the circle around Cromwell who were "Standard Bearers" for freedom.

Sir John Bourchier was found on the early Virginia records as "Lord Commissioner" to the Colonies in about 1623. The early records at Isle of Wight and Richmond Virginia reflect the name spelled BURCHER. Since the Earldom of Bourchier furnished those from Bath that came to the Colonies beginning before abt 1622, I am posting the following succession.

I can see John Land Commissioner of Virginia and the Carolinas. I see William who succeeded him and Henry who suceeded him all mentioned in the early Virginia and New England records. Why not Edward as well. An Edward was busy in the early VA land patents.

A) The first one was the BOUCHIER family with John (and Cicily Dabeny) being 1st Earl created in 1536.

B) 2nd was their son John (Elizabeth Hungerford) who are in the records of VA as coming to the Colonies?

C)3rd was second grandson William (Elizabeth Russell) to the Colonies?

D) 4th was his son Edward (Dorothy St.John) Is this father of Edward who married Jane (Joan) Lawrence of Wiltshire?

E) 5th was the 3rd son of the 2nd Earl, Henry (Rachael Fane) Is this the Henry who lost his life in "Prince Rupert's War" at Bristol. I think his son Henry may be the Henry Brasher who founded the New Amsterdam (NY)Brashear Dynasty.

What do you think??? Can you help establish the linkage to Edward Bourcher/Burcher who married Dorothy St. John?

The descendants today have been documented with numerous variations of the name. Viz: Breshears; Brashears; Brazier; Bezer; Burcher; Bourcher; Brosher; Bunker (and more). They came first to the Barbados, where John Boucher was Commissioner of the "Barbados Land Company". The Land Company colonized "The Carolinas". We find them in the James City Colony at Norfolk before 1622.

They removed to the Northern Neck of Virginia, also to the Eastern Shore of Maryland and are found with the "Welch Settlers" at Merion,Pennsylvania   in the "Welch Track", by 1681. Our BRESHEARS and other ancestors Legacy goes back to the very roots of the Colonies. Such men as Sir George Yeardley, George Mason, Thomas Lee, Richard Bennett and others may be seen also on our lineage charts.

Our Our Western Frontiersmen left "Tracks" of which we can be proud . The families of Lewis, Collins, Jones, Hogg, Hardin, Cox, Robertson, Gibson, and Humphries to name a few , all have counties named after them, across the frontiers. Our Idaho Territorial Pioneerswho came west in 1879 on the "Oregon Trail, left "Tracks" that are a proud "Legacy". We descend from honorable business men, Homesteaders, US Marshalls, who were progenators of  solid family men.
