Blood Glucose Monitoring

Checking one's blood surgar and making insulin adjustments are the keys to having good control of diabetes

Checking your blood sugar is quite easy thanks to all the nice meters on the market. Before meters were out, one way to see what your blood sugar is, was to use visually read strips, which took longer, were not exact and not as accurate as the meters are today.

Here are the basic steps to BGM'ing

• Clean finger with soap and water or alcohol swab
• Turn on maching and insert strip (may vary how to turn on depending on which machine using.)
• Prick finger using lancing device and squeeze out a drop of blood
• Apply the needed amount of blood onto the strip
• Meter should begin counting down
• In less than a minute, result will be displayed
