Diabetes Laugh-Line

Ever just have someone say something silly to you pertaining to diabetes? Well here is your chance to share it!! Just drop a line and I'll post it on here. Hope that everyone gets a laugh =)

My funny story...

FuNnIeS

~ When I was six years old and felt low, I would say I had shaky legs. One day at school I had a substitute teacher, she knew I was a diabetic, however when I told her I had shaky legs, she replied "I don't see your legs shaking!" I then told her I felt low and I was given juice and cheese/crackers. My mom had to write a letter to the teachers at my school to say my shaky legs is an internal feeling. Not something they can see!!

~ This is more of a "most embarassing moment" than a funny but i will tell anyway. One day my blood sugar was running really high. (i was 400 all day at school) But I had taken some extar insulin in before lunch and pretty much forgotten about it. Then, in gym class that afternoon, the school nurse comes running in, announces in front of the 120 kid co-ed 8th grade gym class that she needed me to come to the office to do a ketone test. All the while shes is waving the vile of strips madly. When she noticed me in the back of class, she shouts "i'll meet you in the bathroom!" As i made to long walk to the nurses office i was surrounded by laughing kids! It was awful!

~ This is an honest to God true story. When I was in high school, the school nurse was a tadbit "out there." At the end of the year, I went to get my extra reaction treatment and meter from her office. She proceeded to hand me a bag of hyperdermic needles claiming that they were mine. First of all, I did not take insulin in school! Needless to say, she did not have a clue :)

~ About two years ago, I was about 24, and my buddy and I were in a car driving around (I think looking for a pizza place). Since we were about to eat, I started preparing my insulin injection. We had stopped at a stoplight, and just before I was about to inject, I looked over to the car next to us, and saw that it was full of younger teenagers- about 19-21 y/o. The light turned green, and as we pulled away, they all started cheering!!! I guess they thought I was injecting some other substance...

~ Once I was in Friendly's with my dad and he asked the waitress for a milk because I was a diabetic and was low. She then asked me if a water would be better.

~ One night my friend and I went out to a night club. We were dancing a-lot, and I started to feel low. I started to feel dizzy and I fell back landing on a couple dancing, they gave me an evil look. I was so embaressed!

~ I have diabetes and I wear an insulin pump. I was babysitting for a 9 year old girl with diabetes who was telling me that she wanted to go on a pump too. I told her that was great, but being on a pump was a great responsibility. She looked at me and said, "Well, my fish has been alive for over a month, I'm responsible!" It cracked me up at the time :)

~ I DONT REMEMBER HOW OLD I WAS BUT I SAID I FEEL HIGH TO MY FRIEND IN THE MALL AND SOME OLD LADY HEARD ME AND SHE WENT TO A POLICE OFFICER AND HE WAS LIKE YOUNG LADY I AM GOING TO HAVE TO TAKE YOU WITH ME I WAS LIKE "OK" AND HE SAID HAVE YOU BEEN DOING DRUGS? I SAID NO WHERE WOULD YOU GET AN IDEA LIKE THAT AND HE SAID SOME LADY JUST CAME TO ME AND SAID SHE HAD OVER HEARD YOU TALKING TO YOUR FRIEND AND YOU SAID YOU FEEL HIGH AND I HAD TO EXPLAIN THE WHOLE THING TO THHIS COP BECAUSE HE HAD NEVER HEARD OF DIABETES AND HE THOUGHT I WAS MAKING THE WHOLE THING UP SO I HAD TO SHOW HIM MY MACHINE AND EVERYTHING! I THINK THAT PEOPLE SHOULD BE MORE EDUCATED ON DIABETES!
