Which Hubcap?
Dick Bachman has some advice for people swapping wheels and hubcaps on 22nd and 23rd series cars. Many of us aren't aware that the Custom S's used a peculiar wheel for the specified 8.2Oxl5" tires which only the big tanks carried.
These wheels measure just a wee fraction wider than the wheels intended for Supers or others. As they are just a little different all over, it's not surprising the hubcaps are different too. Customs used a hubcap with a cloisonne center, and were 'slick" under the glass inserts. These hubcaps are a little different from the imprinted hubcaps, and not a few Custom owners have found out the hard way that hubcaps from other series won't hold onto their Custom 8 wheels. Result: lost and/or damaged hubcaps, or even a fender skirt, should a rear wheel "throw" its hubcap.
