Modeling Links

Manufacturers
www.hat.com
HaT Industries' great web site, updated frequently with new product information and contributions from modelers.

www.imex-model.com
Imex's site.  A little sparse, but worth seeing.

www.nexusgames.com
The official site for Nexus Games, who reissue old Atlantic sets.  They are beginning their own line of science fiction and military history figures.

www.hytty.com
This company makes a number of specialty sets in 1/72 scale plastic.

Vendors
Toy Soldier HQ
Kent Sprecher is a mail order vendor who caters to both painters and non painters / collectors.  He has most of the figures made in this scale at reasonable prices.  I've ordered from him many times with no problems.  He does not take credit cards, but he processes orders so quickly that this does not make him slower than the other companies.

Cavalier Books
Publishers of General de Brigade, my rules set of choice for 1/72 plastic Napoleonics.  Use the 25mm scale for division-sized battles.  The publisher is in England, but shipping is fast to the USA.

Steumpfle's
This site has been under construction as long as I've seen it, but the prices and service here are great.  Rick Steumpfle seems a very decent guy.  I have ordered from him twice as well, and deliveries were prompt and complete.  Email him for his current inventory and prices.

The Toy Soldier Company
This company serves the 54mm market, but they carry a limited stock of 1:72 scale figures as well.  I've ordered from them once.  Shipping was very cheap, but prices for figures were too high and my order took 7 days to arrive.  Not terrible, but not great either.

Michigan Toy Soldier Company
This is a well designed site and the company stocks quite a lot of figures.  I'd had minor problems in my dealings with them in the past, but a recent order went off with only a slight hitch.  The site itself is very nice, and worth visiting often.  I'm told by the owner that they now have an expert dealing exclusively with the 1/72 scale figures, and this has improved their operation immensely.

AJA Hobbies
I first bought from this vendor in an E-Bay auction, and was very pleased both with the quality of the service I received and with the price of the figures I bought.  AJA Hobbies maintains an extensive website.  They carry 1/72, 1/35, 54mm, and 1/16 figures along with model sets, games, books, and anything else one might find at the corner hobby store.

Komar, On-Line Military Modeling Magazine
This is a great site, with reviews of all of Italeri's figures, and some of Airfix and A Call to Arms.  The author of the site also maintains a very nice gallery of some of his painted figures.  Since he also sells the figures, I have included him in the vendor's section, but the content of his pages may be enjoyed independently of any purchase.

Musket Miniatures
This company makes and sells 1/72 scale metal Civil War figures.  I have ordered and painted a few regiments and personalities from their stock, and have been very pleased with the result.

Modelers' Pages
Military Miniatures Magazine
The piece de resistance of 1:72 plastic pages.  This site gives painting and terrain tips, wargaming advice, examples of conversions, painting examples, and a comprehensive listing of all figures in 1:72 scale.  Many reviews of figures with painted examples make this a site one can get lost in for hours.  Maintained by Klaus Schultheis, this is the best site I have ever seen dealing with 1:72 scale plastic miniatures.  Herr Schultheis also maintains an email forum for collectors and hobbyists.

www.at-hobby.de
Achim Trieselmann's page is in German, but it's still easily navigable.  The galleries are especially nice.  There are a good number of periods represented.

Modell Figuren Magazin
Don't let the German name scare you away.  This site is in English, maintained by the German authors of the Modell Figuren Magazin.  There are a number of interesting scans of figures here, including some great conversions and reviews of newly released figures.

Airfix HO Scale Figures
Eric Williamson, who handles all the painting for HaT Industries, maintains this site covering the history of Airfix figures.  The collector's guide is the heart of the page, containing scans of every figure Airfix has ever released, along with the various boxes in which the figures were sold.

Modelnet
World War II is the focus for modeler John Murray, and this site is packed with images featuring figures in our favorite scale.  Several useful articles can be found along with the images, and the links section is extensive.  A very nice page, and highly recommended to anyone with an interest in World War II.

Eljay Modeling and Wargaming Page
This page is written by an avid napoleonic modeler.  In it he gives painting guidelines for troops of all nations.  It is still under construction, but the French and Prussian parts are (mostly) completed.

War Times Journal Games
The War Times Journal is an internet magazine which lists several free rules sets for miniatures gaming.  "Republique" is for the Napoleonic period, and "1916" and "1943" are for the two world wars.  I haven't played anything from these rules sets yet, but they have inspired me to paint up my WWI Germans and French.

Warflags
This site is incredibly useful.  The author provides high resolution images of miniature wargaming flags suitable for use with 1:72 scale figures.  Simply size the flags, print them on you high quality printer, cut them out with a razor, and you need never buy a commercially made flag again.  Many historical periods are covered, including the medieval period, the English Civil War, the War of Spanish Succession, the French Revolution and Napoleonic Wars, The American War of Independence and Civil War, colonial wars, the world wars, the Mexican American War, and pirate flags!

Napoleonic Nuts of Singapore
This is the page of a wargaming club.  Here you can find a few painted figures, some battle replays, and suggestions on building your plastic army.

Flags of the Napoleonic Wars
Similar to warflags, but concentrating only on the Napoleonic Wars.  Accurate standards are provided for each battalion or regiment.

History and Evolution of Uniforms During the Napoleonic Era
This site has a very comprehensive study of Napoleonic uniforms of all nationalities.  It is very well designed, professional looking site.  Mannequin in period uniforms illustrate the author's comments on uniform developments for each nation.  It is still under construction, but promises to be the premier site for Napoleonic uniforms information.

Histoire et Figurines
A great site in French and English which contains much information on the Napoleonic period.  Painting guides, organization tables, army histories, and accounts of battles are all presented in rich detail.

Napoleonic Wars and Uniform Exchange Forum
This Delphi message board is a great resource for the Napoleonic modeler.  To use it, you must sign up for Delphi, which is a free hosting service for message boards.

Napoleonic Wars - Campaigns and Uniforms
This site gives a brief rundown of the uniforms of the British, French, and Prussian armies, as well as a rundown on many of the campaigns of the wars.

The 1/72 Scale Plastic Figures and Low Cost Wargaming Site
Patrick Shoesmith's site gives a rundown of figures available and rules sets in common use.  Look for him to start a 1/72 webring soon!

Ancient Armies
This site features all plastic figures from the ancient and classical eras of civilization.

DBx Wargaming with 20mm Soft Plastic Figures
Nick Grant's page gives extensive coverage to the use of 1/72 scale plastic figures for DBA and DBM ancient wargaming.  This is one of the best pages out there, with painting tips, suggestions for DBx armies, and reviews of ancents sets, all richly illustrated with great pics of painted figures.
