The U.S. marines were used as shock troops for beach landings in World War II. Their combat record was very good, but most army units served as well. Only in the past 30 years have the U.S. Marines truly become an elite force. Two sets depict the marines in WWII.

These are from Revell's set of marines. They are in great poses for a beach landing, and have been used to represent Army infantry for a Normandy diorama in my collection.
