HaT Industrie's set provides wargamers
and modelers with their first set of WWI Russians. The Russian army
of this period has been much maligned by historians. It is true that
the Russian army's failures in the Great War led to revolution at home
and that the indiscipline of the army at a critical point inflicted 70+
years of communist rule on Russia. The failures of the army, however,
must be attributed to Russia's political leadership rather than to the
soldiers themselves. How many remember that the Great War's most
successful Allied offensive was executed by the Russians? In June
of 1916 Aleksei Brusilov's attack nearly succeeded in knocking Austria-Hungary
out of the war. The performance of the Russian soldier in this campaign
was equalled only by the German army at its best.

These are from HaT's set. The well posed, well sculpted figures are very easy to paint and look great massed together on the battlefield. Machineguns, mortars, and other heavy weapons are conspicuously absent. HaT should consider producing a heavy weapons set to supplement this worthy offering.
