The Finals of the 59th Amateur Rowing Association of the East (ARAE) Regatta was held on the Adyar in near perfect conditions with a slight tail wind, interspersed with a few gentle showers. The tide running out also helped to produce faster timings. The racing distance for the regatta had to be curtailed to just about 650 meters due to the silting beyond. It was a proud day for MBC winning both the prestigious Willingdon Fours and also the Venables Bowl. The Women too backed it up by winning their Fours event. Rishi Kumar Singh of Calcutta Rowing Club won the Macklin Sculls. The Hooghly Cup for the team championship was retained by Calcutta Rowing Club by a margin of 1 point over MBC. The race for the Willingdon Fours between MBC (represented by: C.R.S.Karthik, B.Dushyant, Neville Billimoria, R.Shanmugaraj & G.Ritesh) and CRC was a thriller until beyond the half-way mark with neither crews giving it away. At the home stretch CRC could no longer hold on. With a 150 meters to go, MBC pulled away to finish with clear water between the two boats.
Ms.Shantini Kapoor, Member Secretary, Sports Development Authority of Tamilnadu, was the
Chief Guest for the evening. She also gave away the prizes.
