How it Works!
Did you ever hear about the garden gnome that was stolen from someone's front garden one day? It was a big mystery, especially when the gnome started to send postcards to the family from all over the world. And then, about a year later, their gnome came home. There he was, sitting in the garden just where he used to be, but with a nice tan and wearing a loud hawaiian shirt! I always thought it was a cute idea, but I didn't think that Gnome-napping would be condoned by my church...
travellin' gnome  But now, here's a way to do use this idea for niceness instead of evil, with a 21st century version of 'message in a bottle' as well! You take your own version of the gnome, and post it to a contact in another country. They send you a card, and post it on to a contact of their own in a third country.. and so on. The exciting thing is, you don't know where it will all end!
Jussy, the skatin' blockhead!
First thing you need to do is have some-one to send! Rache and Jussy both started out as those wire-limbed wooden dolls you get from art and craft shops. Replace the wooden blockhead with something with more personality made out of 'Fimo' or something like that.
Then you need to sew up some costumes for them to wear. It's a good thing we have some-one like Lisa handy, or these two would be wearing clothing made out of masking tape and margarine containers if it were left to me to do! Thanks Lisa!
awwww, what a cute couple

a page from my sketch pad To survive the rigours of international travel, a 'travel pod' had to be created. Your little guy must be protected from crushing and shaking. I made a box out of 'coreflute', with a clear Polycarbonate hinged lid. His ankles are held firm, and foam across his chest keeps him snug and secure.
Create a passport for your traveller, so that every place visited is documented, also a letter of greeting and introduction, and take lots of photo's for the accompanying website! You can also include a few pictures of your group in the parcel. Remember to keep the weight down, less than 250gm's gets the cheapest parcel air-mail rates in Australia. Anyway, it's all about learning about other countries, meeting people, being creative and having fun Katy, and wabbit ears

In front of the hall...and in the back yard.
Have you ever wanted to travel all over the world?

It's another world traveller, it's Murray!!!
