Kootenai Indians

The Kootenai Tribe

The ancient homeland of the Kootenai (also Kootenay, Kutenai, etc.) Indians stretched from central Montana and nearby Canada, westward through north Idaho and nearby Washington State.

The modern Kootenai reservation in Idaho is located near Bonners Ferry. A short distance to the north are the related Koontenai of Canada.

The Fast Thinker

The short book called The Fast Thinker, by John Anderson, features a kootenai Indian folk tale about a fast-thinking frog who out-raced the Antelope, even though the antelope was reputed to be the fastest runner in the world.

This web page presents the views of the author, and does not necessarily represent

the views of the Kutenai Indians, either individually, or in a group.
