08-29-1999 On the 29th of July I had back surgery and things have slowed way down here. I have yet to write my August posting, and a few other things. I tried to update the index page at this site as people don't seem to realize that I have set up 5 different sites. I managed to organize it, but it is rather a mess.

We are moving and I am still healing from the surgery. I hope to get things up and running on an Amiga in mid October. If I manage to get my hands on a working 386 or better notebook, I will be able to get things done via emulators while all this packing, system tearing down, moving, healing, etc. is happening.

Come, October/November I also hope to straighten out the site and update the Q & A page and get any current shows posted -- I apologize for not posting any of the current show and industry news (there are lots ;) -- until the next time frame!

05-19-1999 "Welcome, my son, welcome to The Machine..." (1975, Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here) The CDTV system is now complete (kinda) and it's ready to go -- get fixed. The machine I quite often refer to as The Machine, the big pile that is actually two machines -- an Amiga 1000 and a Commodore CDTV, now has a working CD-ROM! After well over three years, CD access is back! There is actually a fill-in CDTV to fill the big down-time gap that hits whenever a computer goes off location to get fixed. The original CDTV is still broken and in need of repair. But in the interim, the system is now complete, or at least where it used to be, sans a printer.

OS 2.1

I now have access to a system with OS 2.1 on it. It is a 4 Meg, 68000, A2000 with 250 Meg HD. It is kinda strange, Intuition looks like, and feels like the A1200, but there are subtle differences. I use Image Studio a lot, but I couldn't get the 1280 by 400 resolution display to work (it came up as an option), then I remembered "ah yes, this is not an AGA machine!" It's like having all the frills of the 1200 Intuition, but the old chip set. And yes, the CDTV is faster by 1.04 times, but with the 4 Megs, you really don't notice this. I have yet to get the CD-ROM going on it as it does not like the cable :( and I have yet to go get a different one.

I have been playing around with Genesis and have done some neat stuff with it. However, having used Scenery Animator before Genesis, I am disappointed with colors and vegetation, although the rivers are nice. Having realistic colors, trees, and clouds has spoiled me. Don't get me wrong, Genesis is a wonderful program that is easy to use (especially the map and camera controls), but I really like the end result of Scenery Animator. (Vista Pro barely runs on this machine and crashes more often than runs -- I need more RAM! ; )

Antony and I love the Ring Trilogy of J. R. R. Tolkien, so I rendered Mount Doom. I also added a photo of the earth rise (taken from the Lunar surface) -- looks wild, yet out of place ;) They will be posted shortly The Gallery's Renderings page over at The Archaic Computer Gallery when I get a few good pictures. Mount Doom was rendered in Genesis. I am currently rendering The Shire in Scenery Animator, as I type.

Speaking of posting....

The Bitstream has a new page that will be growing into a full blown web site! Those who have waited patiently over the last year or so for something to happen, well, it has begun! Check out Nexus, the Bitstream for commodore 8bitters for more information.

That reminds me --

We (MRCWBBS) are looking for an article by Rick Lembree that talks about setting up a BBS on a C64. In his bio, Rick states that Tom Netsel asked him to write it for Compute!'s Gazette in 1996(?). If this rings anybody's bell, let me know, any info leading to the article would be greatly appreciated. Rick Lembree founded Team AMIGA.

02-02-1999 Well, a massive edit done to a DLed FAQ file has been occupying my free time the last couple of days, along with the search for a 386 laptop to run my C64 software on. I have set up a site where you can post ads and chat (no membership required) at The CPU. The CPU is dedicated to computing in general. Remember, if you are into Vintage Computing be sure to check out The Mousam River Community WebBBS's message base as that is where I do Vintage talk (along with the Legacy Chat Xone!).

01-16-1999 NC Online! gets a new spokes person! Homer! Bart is going to reside down here.
