Greetings Earthlings! Live long and prosper! Hello and welcome to this my humble offering dedicated to one of the greatest science fiction series ever made, Mork and Mindy! Ha ha ha only joking, of course it's Star Trek the original series. |
There are incalculable web sites
dedicated to Star Trek, packed with numerous images,
facts and er, stuff all about the stars, the show and
even the starship Enterprise. I can not even attempt to compete with such dedication and I can only say that to me, Star Tek is the ultimate in science fiction campness. To parody Star Trek would be futile ( strength is irrelevant! ) as it had its own distinct sense of humour anyway. The show also boasted some ground breaking drama for a science fiction show, the first televised inter racial kiss by Captain Kirk and Lieutenant Uhura was thought very provocative even in the so-called swinging sixties. There wear also some very interesting parables in the various episodes, dealing with such diverse things as racial stereotypes, ( for the aliens ), intense drama and, as stated before, camp humour. The show in reality, derives much of its strength for the use of archetypes. The crew of the Enterprise are like a futuristic saga of heroism from the ancient myths of the Odyssey or the Argonauts. As the viewer got to know more about the complexities of there crew, one obtain an empathy with their characteristics. The crew encountered bizarre aliens, strange worlds, beautiful women, in a sense it had everything. OK so the scripts may a bit corny by today's standards and the sets and props looked like they were made in some old blokes garage, ( heck, they probably were! ) but 'Trek remains to this one day one of the most fanatically adored piece of twentieth century fiction. |
The main crew of the Enterprise and stars of the show consisted of the following :
The highly successful television gave rise to several motion picture releases and a follow up series set seventy years into the future, Star Trek : The Next Generation.
