Poems Written for Linda

"The Trooper"....by B. Culpepper

God must have needed a trooper
For that Home Ranch way up there;
Someone He could count on
That was honest, true and fair.

So he called her to His "Big Ranch"
Over in that promised land;
A tribute to Law and Order,
Someone to take a stand.

She'll make a mighty good trooper
And they'll get along just fine;
For this is a job she's dreamed about
For such a long long time.

Of course we'll all miss her,
And sometimes shed a few tears;
But the Big Boss up there,
Let us have her for those few precious years.

So I guess that we should thank Him
For those years that he loaned her to us;
Those many years of memories,
Of faith, courage and trust.

When we ride in the last Round-up
Nothing will make it more "sooper",
Than to be protected by someone special,
A great and honorable Trooper!

Adieu to Linda....Anonymous

Dark clouds lay o'er the prairie.
What must we do to atone?
Another sentry has fallen;
Her name etched now in stone.

Our flags lay flaccid at half-staff,
Our hearts are heavy with grief;
The oak tree that stands serenely,
It too must shed a leaf.

Another shield has been shattered,
For now it must rest in it's grave;
Her memory never forgotten,
This lady so courageous and brave.

Sentinel angels stand grieving,
An escort to Heaven's pure gates;
Now Linda will be with the Angels,
With love and no more hate.

Farewell Linda, we'll miss you,
We'll miss your smile and your grace;
Your memory abides immortal,
In God's own holy place.

    Gone
    Is the smile, the joy-
    The tears of anguish and pride-
    The life of a peacekeeper required to be above reproach and unmarked by brutality, while still remaining compassionate and understanding toward the brutal.

    Taken
    Is the companion who yesterday walked among us-
    Today lies before us draped in honor and solemnly escorted to the final rest.

    Left Bhind
    Are the questions, memories, anger and grief.

    Left Behind
    Are the loved ones who hold close the faith that the soul departed now sleeps in a place of everlasting peace.

    Left Behind
    Are we who wear the badge and carry forward the service. We who secretly believe one day the lion and the lamb shall lie together and the violent reasons for our ultimate sacrifice will be gone.
