Monarchy/No Republic Information Meeting Report
ON Friday night (29/10/99) at a meeting organized by Australians Loyal to Crown and Constitution the audience stood out of respect for our Monarchy and joined in singing a hearty rendition of God Save the Queen.
After hearing three speakers outline what Australia stands to lose by a 'yes' vote at the forth-coming Referendum, all present were agreed that they wanted to work toward the failure of these two referendum questions.
The well-attended meeting heard how the Referendum questions were not telling the full story about the massive changes that a 'Yes' vote will effect.
Arthur Tuck launched the meeting by delivering a riveting presentation of the history of the crown and its benefits to the ordinary Australian. He asked if anyone could identify any single benefit that the proposals would bring to Australia, its economy, its justice system, or our quality of life.
Second speaker, Ian McLeod, gave particular focus to the dangers inherent in John Howard's 'Preamble' that we are being asked to insert into the constitution instead of the existing valid preamble. Concern was expressed by members of the audience that the Referendum booklet had failed to mention and list in full the existing preamble to the constitution. The existing preamble to our Constitution declares our dependence on Almighty God.
Mrs Rona Joyner rounded up the night delivering some warnings over the proposed procedure for selection of the president. She suggested that the system would be open to abuse and manipulation and that through a simple Parliamentary majority, we could end up with a foreigner as our president by becoming a technical 'Australian Citizen' through legislation. Whereas the existing definition of a loyal subject of the Queen is secure, the vague term 'Australian Citizen' is open to the interpretation of the whim of the ruling party. At any time the party cronies could change the term to include a rich or powerful foreign friend (for example the head of the United Nations might want a hobby to tinker with when he retires) as an 'Australian Citizen' and our next 'Head of State'. You just never know.
All speakers referred to section 70A and to the Preamble to warn the audience of the very grave danger that our title to land as freeholders could be lost forever to native title.
While this meeting was well attended the general lack of interest in the community towards finding out more about the consequences of the referendum choices was bemoaned. This issue is of such importance that when a meeting is held like this we should have people hanging from the rafters to find out how they can safeguard their personal liberty and freedom.
Those at the meeting resoundingly affirmed by vocal acclamation that they would be voting NO NO at the November poll. That is NO to the Republic and NO to Howard's treacherous Preamble.
The meeting started at 7pm with prayer for the nation and at 10:15pm was closed in prayer, Humbly relying on the Blessing of Almighty God.
