House Barratheon
The Lords Of Storm's End
Ours Is The Fury
Storms End is an old castle ... and according to the songs, raised by Durran, the first Storm King, who had won the heart of Elenei, daughter of the sea god and the goddess of the wind. When she yielded her maidenhood to a mortal's love on her wedding night, she also yielded herself to a mortal's death. Her parents, angered and in grief, sent the waters and the winds to destroy Durran's hold. The winds and waters killed all his brothers, friends and wedding guests that night. But sheltered in Elenie's arms, Durran survived to build five more castles on the same spot, each stronger than the last, in defiance of the gods. Each one was destroyed by powerful winds and giant walls of water.
Finally, deaf to the pleas of his lords, priests and smallfolk, he built a seventh, more massive and stronger than all the rest, some say with the aid of magic wrought by the Children of the Forest; others say a small boy, who would grow up to be Bran the Builder, told him what to do. Either way, this castle stood strong and unbroken through storm after storm. It is the castle that stands today as Storm's End.
The Lords Barratheon claim descent from the Storm Kings of old through the female line. The youngest of the Great Houses is House Barratheon, founded during Aegon Targaryen's Wars Of Conquest. Orys Barratheon, its founder, rumored to be Aegon's bastard brother, was one of his fiercest battle commanders. When he defeated Argilac the Arrogant, the last Storm King, Aegon rewarded him with Argilac's castle, lands and daughter. Orys, marrying the girl, adopted the banner, honors and words of her line.
The Barratheon sigil is a crowned black stag upon on golden field. Their words: Ours Is The Fury. The House Barratheon is the Royal House of the Land, after Lord Robert Barratheon, together with Lord Eddard Stark, Lord Jon Arryn and Lord Hoster Tully raised their banners against the mad king Aerys II Targaryen. Robert himself slew Rhaegar Targayen at the Trident and the Lannisters of Casterly Rock killed Rhaegar's children in support of Robert during the Sack of King's Landing. Robert, apart from leading the rebellion had the best blood claim to the Iron Throne and so he became King Robert Barratheon, the First of His Name. Together with his brothers, the Barratheons now hold three great castles and their bannermen: The Red Keep in King's Landing, Storms End and Dragonstone, the Seat of the Targaryens before they were vanquished.
