The Blackthorn Storyboard
Guidelines
This is the Storyboard section. What do I mean by storyboard? Well, I write stories, sometimes based on characters from books or comics I've read, sometimes entirely out of my own imagination.
I really love fan fiction, though. I've people say that its not very original...but personally, I believe that some of the best works of fantasy and science fiction I ever saw were written by people using another person's brainchild to weave a story of their own. Sometimes they even surpass the creator (not that I think my House Kanyle story matches in any way what George R. R. Martin has already done.)
So this is like...um...the fan fiction section of this website. For people who want to write their own stories set in the land of Westeros...or any other for that matter, of their own imagination, or not. Why limit the possibilities? I'm sending some of my original stuff here.
There are two sections in the Storyboard. The Stories by E-mail and the Message Board. The Stories by E-mail section is for those who want their stories put on an individual page or set of pages and they submitted them by e-mail. The name of the authors and all the pertinent information is included on the pages (Of Course!!). Complete stories are marked to show they are complete. Incomplete-but-getting-there are marked as well. The Message Board is for those, like me, who like seeing their work up immediately, or who are spur-of-the-moment writers. If you are a solo writer, the thread you start is yours and yours alone, though readers can add comments to it. Another good use of the message board is tandem writing. You start a story and let somebody else write the next part, on and on until it is complete. (I'll be doing this a lot). As soon as a story is complete on the Message Board, it is moved to the Stories by E-mail section and marked for "complete," with the writer's or writers' name(s) and necessary information.
So these are the easy rules for posting a story here....
- On the message board: If it is a story set in the world of A Song Of Ice And Fire, preface it "ASOIF:" in the subject header and then the name of the story. If it is an original story, write "ORIG:" in the subject header. If it is from some other writer's work though, abbreviate it and write that as a preface; i.e. "DRGL:" for Dragonlance.
- On the message board: If you are writing solo, add "SOLO:" at the beginning of the story thread in the subject header. Use only one thread for a story, i.e. post a REPLY to your last posting on the thread. You need only to write the name of the story in the subject header from here on in.
- On the message board: If you're sending a comment or criticism about someone's story, REPLY on that person's thread, and please preface it with "COMM:" in the subject header.
- On the message board: If you want to write a tandem story, preface it with "TAN:" in the subject header. Note that when you do this, you're inviting anybody with an idea to carry on your story. Again use only one thread per story. The same rule for posting comments and criticisms applies.
- On the message board: You may change a story from a "SOLO:" to a "TAN:" and vice versa, if you wish...but only if you own the story, i.e. if you started it, or if you have the owner's permission. Just type the new status of the story on its subject header, either "SOLO:" or "TAN:"
- On the message board: If you want to make sure that a tandem writer continuing your story would follow your plot, notify the board in your last posting and please leave a contact address for the writers to follow so they can ask you what the next move is. Although it's up to you, I believe the plot should remain secret, off the board so that readers reading your story on the board can be swept off their feet in anticipation, because they would not know what would happen next. Note that all tandem writers' inputs, whether they follow the plot or not would be displayed until their thread dies out.
- On the message board: If you intend your story to be a "TAN:" at some point in time, or throughout, I believe it's best to write the synopsis at the beginning of the thread, though if you want to keep it a secret, it's up to you.
- On the message board: A thread is declared dead and then removed if there is no writing on it after twenty days. The contents of the thread are then stored in the Storyboard Archive, marked "Incomplete" for another month, just in case someone decides he/she wants to complete it. After the person contacts me, I'll post it back on the board for a week, after which, if not posted to, I remove it for good.
- IMPORTANT: If you post anything to this website, keep a record of it. On the message board, please note those who leave also leave messages to be your witnesses in case anyone steals anything from you. If you e-mail me a story, please keep a record of that. To you I promise not to change one word without your say-so. Thank you.
