Let's face it. Not everything on television is going to be educational and advantageous to our children. Sometimes it's good for the soul to watch a program that is flat-out silly and laugh your head off.
I've discovered one of those programs: "Big Wolf on Campus." Geared for older kids, this live-action, sci-fi comedy series takes its cues from such popular teen programs as "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "The X-Files," but is kinder, gentler and a whole lot funnier.
Tommy Dawkins (played by Brandon Quinn) is a Pleasantville High School senior and football captain who was mysteriously bitten by a werewolf. The series plays with Tommy's ongoing challenge of keeping his secret safe while, at the same time, dealing with his werewolf transformations. These fairly tame transformations, though, routinely happen at inopportune times, such as when giving his girlfriend (Rachelle Lefevre) a back rub.
Merton Dingle (Danny Smith), although unpopular and weird, is the only one who is safe with Tommy's secret. Together, the friends contend with a growing number of Pleasantville pests — vampires, monsters-in-the-closets, evil werewolves — while also dealing with high school life.
