Discworld/Gundam Wing Crossover
This one I blame totally on Amet. Okay, I am PARTIALLY to blame I suppose--I was the one who got her started on Terry Pratchett's Discworld series. After that she started egging me to work on a Gundam Wing/Discworld crossover, wanting to see what happens when Shinigami meets Death. She begged and I caved, actually getting part of a scene out before I threw in the towel. I'm not Pratchett, as much as I'd love to be. Amet was amused though and demanded I post it. So here it is. Enjoy.

Death.

Duo Maxwell had an idea of what death was. Having lived with its constant shadow in his life, how could he not? He had glimpsed its many faces, plague-ridden or the quick melt of flesh under fire. There were smells associated with it, musty and moldering like an old sock left out in the rain or (worse still) the scent of sickly sweet scent of meat. There were colors, vibrant reds and rotting grays, the dim clear of a graveyard on a rainy day.

Nowhere in that composite did fur or tiny mewling play any part. Nor did the bright orange ball of yarn one kitten was currently chasing across the obsidian desktop before hunkering down to watch the stroke-stroke of white bone against its sister’s coat. He shivered. There was just something really, really wrong with this picture.

Could have something to do with the seven foot tall skeleton dressed in pooling black robes sitting just inches across from him, he mused.

There was more than just a little wrong with this picture. This room for instance. It seemed unreasonably… large. Almost unfathomable. Every time he tried to pace the distance of it with his eyes, they watered and crossed, refusing to do let him stare a moment longer. Then there was the entire black motif. Not that he had anything against black. As a rule in fact, it was his favorite color. But it was somewhat disconcerting to sit in a room where most of the color hadn’t just disappeared, it had been sucked out by a hollow straw, leaving shades within black that he’d never seen before, proving that it was possible to find something darker. You just had to put your mind to it.

And then there was the skeleton itself. Right now, the unwavering attention of its bright blue gaze was focused on the antics of the tiny creatures adorning its desk. As macabre and cute as the scene might be, even when one of the kittens nearly skittered over the edge, only to be plucked up and set back down with a pat, Duo had a fairly good idea of who he was dealing with here and it wasn’t the Easter Bunny.

YOU KNOW WHY YOU WERE SUMMONED? The voice was eldritch, not spoken so much as simply being.

Duo smiled, a small nervous laugh escaping. "Ah… Haven’t a clue. I’m not dead though?"

NO.

"Oh good."

THAT, OF COURSE, IS ALWAYS SUBJECT TO CHANGE. REST ASSURED YOU ALWAYS HAVE MY PERSONAL ATTENTION AT ALL TIMES ON MATTERS SUCH AS THESE.

"Oh. Thanks. I think."
