Der Verlorene
(The Lost One)
When looking deeply into another person's problems, one always
runs
the risk of losing one's own way. Borders and boundaries grow
indistinct and fade, and one can tell no longer whether
they are wandering within their own inner forest or have become
lost within another's. Yet the ability to lose strict self-definition
and blend with another person's concerns is the essence of all
self-sacrifice and giving. Inevitably, one must lose oneself within
the Other in order to find a meaning and true purpose much greater
than that assigned by mere self-interest and conformity to
social norms.
