Doc Bwana
Presents
a pre-Columbian
hEADHUNTING gODDESS
Many thanks to our good
friend Don Juan, who sent us this photograph
of a pre-Columbian statuette depicting an unknown Goddess carrying
a severed human head. Headhunting is a very ancient practice which
possessed great ritual significance. In many respects, the Goddess portrayed
here resembles the Hindu female deity Kali, who was also a destroyer. Medusa,
Queen Mab, Lilith, and the ancient Egyptian Goddess Sekhmet provide other
examples of the feminine dark side.
