The marriage of Aaron Sexton and Nancy Alexander is the first of many unions between the Alexander and Sexton families.
Aaaron was born abt 1829 in Fentress Co., Tn. the son of Moses Sexton (s/o Timothy) and Laura Leannder Hatfield.
Moses Sexton was a veteran of the war of 1812.
Timothy Sexton was a veteran of the American Revolution and wintered at Valley Forge with Gen. George Washington.
Arron and Nancy were married abt 1849, probably in Fentress Co., Tn. where they are listed on both the 1850, and 1860 census.
However about 1861 they moved to Wayne Co., Ky the home of Nancy's family where Aaron joined The Union Army, serving in Co. I 12th Kentucky Infantry during the Civil War. Nancy and their oldest son John tended the farm and cared for the family in Aarons absence, their primary income from a tobacco crop. Arron was discharged March 24th, 1863 at Louisville, Ky.
Some time around 1880 Aaron left Nancy and the children and returned to Tennesse where he took up with a woman by the name of Mary Jane York.
In 1883 Aaron filed for divorce from Nancy in Scott Co. Tn.
He then married Mary Jane York on September 4,1887 in Scott Co. Tn. at the time of the marriage Aaron would have been 61 years old, and Mary Jane York 25 years old.
Nancy remained in Wayne Co. Ky. where she died sometime after 1910. It is believed that Nancy was blind in the later years of her life, and lived with her and Aarons youngest duaghter Lettie according to the 1910 census. It also seems likely that Nancy's property was siezed by a funneral home after her death to pay funneral fees.
