James Honell Garland was born August 5 1924 in Indianapollis, Ind. the son of Flora Ann Sexton and James Elmer Garland. He married Eileen Evelyn Thompson daughter of James M. Thompson and Florence Grieser on August 10, 1943 in Mannhattan, New York. James would have been in the United States Navy at the time they married as he enlisted on December 20, 1941 just days after the Bombing of Pearl Harbor. During his time in the Navy James was aboard the following ships Uss Cinncinatti, Uss Nields(616), USS Abercrombie (DE343),USS Cascade (AD16), USS Rescue (AH18), USS Repose (AH16), USS ?osper (ADA170). He served as a machinist and a torpedoman earning Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with 5 stars, Phillipine Liberation Medal,Eoupean Freator ribbon w/2 stars. James was discharged from the Navy on October 11, 1945.
Eileeen was born 7 April 1926 in Mannhattan, New York, She died 20 November 1985 in East Enterprise, Ind. James died August 8, 1994, James and Eileen are buried side by side in the New Liberty Cemetary East Enterprise, Ind. James and Eileen had six children.
