Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party

We attended both nights of Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, held Oct. 30th and 31st 1997. For convenience sake, we will combine highlights of both nights. There was little advance information about the party, and we didn't expect much more than the "regular" magic from the Magic Kingdom!
The party started at 7:00, when we arrived at 6:30 the music from the Haunted Mansion was playing over the loud speakers. There were four, I'm guessing, 20 foot tall inflatable jack-o-lanterns on the admission gate. We knew that we were in for a treat!
There were continuous character greetings on Main Street. We got autographs from The Queen of Hearts, The Hag (she signed "Snow Witch"), The Big Bad Wolf, and Governor Radcliffe. I am sure that there were more, but there was an entire park to explore!
Main Street was lit in a very eerie fashion. There was fog everywhere and all the buildings had orange and purple spot lights with shapes of bats, cats, and all kinds of halloween things. Cinderella's castle was dramatically underlit with purples and greens. The Haunted Mansion theme, and other Disney Halloween songs were continuously played throughout the park!
We went to "The Haunted Character Dinner" at Liberty Tree Tavern. The castmembers had their usual outfits on, but they were all made up like ZOMBIES! The food and characters were the same as usual. Minnie, Goofy, Pluto, Chip, Dale, and Meeko (I don't know why Meeko hangs out with these guys!). They all had hand-held masks. Of note were Chip and Dale, they had owl masks, and Meeko, who was a tree for Halloween.
Man attractions were open. They were; Main Street Cinema, Pirates of The Carribean, Jungle Cruise, Big Thunder Mountain, Splash Mountain, Haunted Mansion, everything in Fantasyland EXCEPT Legend of the Lion King and the Skyway, The Barnstormer, everything in Futureland except Carousel of Progress and the Skyway. Also many shops were open. Everything was dimly lit with special effects lighting. Throughout the park there were "Nestles' Trick or Treat stations!" Kids of ALL ages could trick or treat but we opted to pass up the Nestles' Crunch bars.
In The Toontown Hall of Fame, the were two character greeting rooms open. One room was silly, with Chip, Dale, and Donald in ghost outfits. As ghosts, Chip and Dale tried to fool me by signing each-other's names! The other room had Pooh dressed as a bumble-bee, Eeyore as a mummy, and Tigger as a skeleton!
There was lots of additional special entertainment. Every castmember was in Halloween costume! In Adventureland, there were stilt walkers and fortune tellers! There were kids' costume parades and a special Diamond Horseshoe Saloon Halloween Revue! We have pictures with special photo backdrops of Chernabog and The Giant from "The Brave Little Tailor"!
The parade was incredible. The first half had a new halloween parade song and was a Villains' showcase! EVERYONE was present! Cruella, Maleficent, Capt. Hook, Smee, The Witch, Hades, Pain, Panic, Fowlfellow, Gideon, all the characters already mentioned, and MORE! The second half was a square dance, called by Goofy. Everybody's favorite characters were there. Worth note are Daisy wearing a cowgirl outfit and Wendel who was easily the scariest character there!
The fireworks were introduced by the Hag flying from the castle, instead of Tinkerbell. The display was special, mostly orange, with green and purple! After the fireworks we were treated to a performance of the Everyday's a Holiday Musical Revue.
The Magic Kingdom hosted the BEST halloween party that we EVER attended! Oh, and we visited the Haunted Mansion SIX times those two nights!
