Tips for Studying Overseas

Inevitably, we weren't prepared for everything on our journey. We made it through a year, though, so in order for things to go smoothly on your own journey, here are a few tips (in no particular order) that should help. This page will include more information quite often.

1. Get a VISA for both semesters. In our case, our VISA was a letter of acceptance from the school that we would be attending. Even if you are only planning to stay for one semester, get a VISA for the whole school year. If you have a short stay VISA and decide to stay past your return date, you must apply for an extension. This is a harrowing and nervewracking ordeal, since you will be illegal if you do not get it.

2. Once you are at your destination, make sure you register with the local police department if you are required. If they have a file on you, they know who is in their town, and you know that you're taken care of.

3. Write down your experiences. In most cases, you'll not have a trip like this again. Write down what you see, with whom you travel, and even the little everyday things that you don't want to forget.
