One Request

I think it best, for my last request,
That, as I'm dead or dying be,
You'll find the heart to laugh and jest,
And shed no tears for me.
May my kinsmen, friends, and foes,
And the children I have born,
Go on about their daily lives,
And make no time to mourn.
If, by chance, you find yourself,
at my final resting place,
Know that death was not as frightening,
As what some of life has had me face.
Think fondly of my wit and rhyme,
And the truimphs I did see,
Let loving smiles part your lips,
And shed no tears for me.
