Fabien Barthez:-
Date of birth:28.6.71. Club: Monaco.9 caps. Forced his way into Marseille's team in their 1992-93 Champions Cup-winning season and created his won' soccer fashion with his short-sleeved goalkeeping shirts. Moved to Monaco in 1995. His own famble of the game cost France their match against England in Le Tournoi when he dropped a cross and Alan Shearer scored the late, only goal.
Bernard Lama:-
Date of birth:7.4.63. Club: West Ham Utd(England). 35 Caps. A year ago Lama would have considered a certainty to be keeping goal at the World Cup. Suspended after failing a dope test for marijuana and fell out with PSG. Did not play at all last autumn and now unable to get into West Ham's first team.
Defenders:
Laurent Blanc:-
Date of birth:19.11.65. Club: Merseille. 63 Caps (11 goals). Tall, dominating, sweeper or occasional midfielder who was 1990 Footballer of the year. Made his name with Montpellier where he was even once their 14-goal top scorer. Joined Napoli after the 1992 European Championships but stayed little more than a year, being too adventurous for the Italians' liking.
Marcel Desailly:-
Date of birth 7.9.68. Club: AcMilan (Italy). 37 Caps (1goal). Born in Africa Ghana, but, made his initial steps in the game by playing 164 league games for nantes before joining Merseille in 1992. He so impressed Milan, in helping Marseille beat them in 1993 Champions Cup Final, that the Italian Club snapped him up the following autumn. He Could be a very dangerous in the position of defender!
