REVOLUTIONARY WAR

CONNECTICUT

Oliver Babcock (Gr-grandfather of Mary (Babcock) Veatch, wife of Harry Veatch, 534-147-4, WeV1, P358) B: New London, CT., D: 1777. Ensign, 5/1/1775, 6th Connecticut Infanry, Col. Samuel Parson's regiment. He was promoted, 7/1/1775, to 2d lt., 1/1/1776, to 1st lt., and was transferred to the 10th Continental Infantry, which was made of men from the State. He was wounded and taken prisoner, 11/16/1776, at Fort Washington, NY. Exchanged, 1/10/1777. He died a few weeks later.

DELAWARE

John Sheldon Dorman (Father-in-law of Solomon Veach, 163-2, WeV1, P47). Listed on company roll, 1/8/1777, 2d lt., Cpt. William Perry's Company of Militia. He was later promoted to captain, Broadkiln Company, Eastern Battalion, Col. David Hall's regiment. He is listed on the company rolls, 7/10/1780, 1782, and 1783.

KENTUCKY

Samuel Broadwell (Father-in-law of David Veatch (Veach), 532-122, WeV1, P253). B: 1750, D: 1823, Harrison Co., KY. He served in an unknown regiment.

MARYLAND

Henry Bowman (Grandfather of John Bowman, husband of Margaret Veach). B: 1730, Germany, D: Maryland. Enl., under the name "Henry Boarman", unknown regiment.

John Masters (Grandson of Mary (Veatch) Masters, 51, WeV2, P264). B: 1756, Prince George County, MD., D: 1811. Enl., Prince George County Militia.

Leven Sprigg (Father-in-law of Issac Veatch, 534-14, WeV1, P339) B: 1762, Montgomery Co., MD., D: 1833, Hardin (now Meade) Co., KY. Enl., unknown regiment. Made the rank of corporal.

NEW JERSEY

John Moore (Gr-grandfather of Josiah Hickman, husband of Judith Veach, 537-165) B: 1739, D: 1793, Union Co., NJ. Enl., Essex Co., NJ., 2nd Regiment of Essex County. He was also a member of Captain Craig's Company of State Troops.

NEW YORK

Daniel Chapman (Father-in-law of Ishmael Veatch, 535-731, WeV1, P645) B: 1756, Westchester Co., NY., D: 1841, Johnson Co., IL. Enl., 1775, N.Y. Militia, Col. John Thomas' Regiment, Cpt. Richard Sackett's Company. He served 9 months in this unit. In 1776, he served against the Tories for another 9 months. In 1777, he was a 2nd sgt., and a scout, in the 2d N.Y. Regiment, Col. Frederick Weisenfeldt's regiment, where he served one year and marched to meet Lord Cornwallis in VA. His regiment was present at Valley Forge.

NORTH CAROLINA

Sherwood Kenneday, SR (Father-in-law of Elizabeth B. Veach, ???) B: 1760, Halifax Co., VA., D: 1842, Davidson Co., N.C. Enl., 11/1778, Col. Locke's N.C. Regiment, Cpt. Enoch Davis' company. He fought at the battle of Brier Creek under Col. Alexander Brevard in 1779. He enlisted again in 1780 as an orderly sgt in Cpt. John Johnson's Company, Col. John Collier's and Col. Jonathon Harper's regiments.

PENNSYLVANIA

Jeremiah Ellis (Son of Mary (Veatch) Ellis, 53?, WeV2, P354) B: 1754, Frederick Co., MD., D: 1851, Brown Co., OH. Enl., 1st sgt., Pennsylvania Line, Cpt. John Walls' company. He was a sgt/spy in Col. Hedge's Regiment, Cpt. Fout's company.

Jesse Ellis (Son of Mary (Veatch) Ellis, 53?, WeV2, P354) B: 1756, Frederick Co., MD., D: 1845, Brown Co., OH. Enl., 4/1/1776, Pennsylvania Militia, Cpt. Matthew Richey's company. In 1778, he was in Col. John Stephenson's Regt., Cpt. Andrew Swearingen's co. He served in this unit for 6 months. He is listed on the rolls, /1/1779, in the 8th PA Regiment, Col. Daniel Brodhead's regiment, Cpt. Nathan Ellis' company (See below). He also served in VA (See VA soldiers).

Nathan Ellis (Son of Mary (Veatch) Ellis, 53?, WeV2, P355) B: 1749, Frederick Co., MD (NOTE: One record lists his birth in Wales), D: 1819, Brown Co., OH. Listed on company rolls, 8/1/1779, as a captain, 8th Pennsylvania Infantry, Col. Daniel Brodhead's regiment. He also served in VA and in the War of 1812 (See VA soldiers and War of 1812).

Samuel Ellis (Son of Mary (Veatch) Ellis, 53?, WeV2, P355) B: 1752, Frederick Co., MD., D: 1848, Brown Co., OH. Enl., sgt., Col. William (or John) Stephenson's Regiment, Cpt. Andrew Swearingen's co. He was also a member of Col. John Stinson's Regiment of the Pennsylvania Line.

Barnabas Ford (Father-in-law of Benjamin Veach, 537-1) B: 1743, Bedford Co., PA., D: 1822, Mahning Co., OH. Listed on roll, 1783, Bedford Co. Militia, Cpt. Thomas Davis' company. Another record claims he was a fifer in Washington's army at Valley Forge.

Ezekiel Hickman (Gr-grandfather of Josiah Hickman, husband of Judith Veach, 537-165) B: 1725, Frederick Co., MD., D: 1779, PA. Enl., 1775. He furnished 75 men and arms, and was made captain of his own company in General Daniel Morgan's division. Listed on company rolls, 1777, as a lt., in the 8th Pennsylvania Infantry, Col. Daniel Brodhead's regt.

NOTE: There were several other Hickmans related to the two above who enlisted and can be furnished to those interested.

George Hoover (Grandfather of Iabelle (Hoover) Veatch, wife of Alvin Veatch, 535-421-33, WeV1, P554). He served in an unknown regiment.

James Parker (Father-in-law of David Veech, 41?-13, WeV1, P95). He was a captain in the York County (PA) Militia.

Casper Snyder (Father-in-law of Thomas Veach, ?162-11, WeV1, P30) B: 1745, Germany, D: 1821, PA. He was a lieutenant in the PA Militia.

VIRGINIA

Aaron Crane (Married Susanna Veatch, 521-3, WeV2, P266) B: 1756, Pittsylvania Co., VA., D: 1824, Fayette Co., KY. Enl., 5th Virginia Infantry (NOTE: This regiment was later consolidated with the 7th VA. Infantry).

Jesse Ellis (Son of Mary (Veatch) Ellis, 53?, WeV2, P354) B: 1756, Frederick Co.,MD., D: 1845, Brown Co., OH. Enl., 6th VA. Regiment, Cpt. Robert Jackman's co. He also served in the 12th VA. Regiment, Col. James Wood's regiment. He also served in PA (See PA soldiers).

Hezekiah Ellis (Son of Mary (Veatch) Ellis, 53?, WeV2, P355) B: 1760, Frederick Co., MD., D: 1853, Brown Co., OH. Enl., Cpt. James Hopkins' company. He was promoted to ensign, 5/17/1781, in the Spottsylvania Miitia, Cpt. John Chew's company.

Nathan Ellis (Son of Mary (Veatch) Ellis, 53?, WeV2, P355) B: 1749, Frederick Co., MD., D: 1819, Brown Co., OH. Enl., 1778, as a captain in the Yohogania Militia. He also served in PA (See PA soldiers).

John Glasscock (Gr-grandfather of Ankah (Mellett) Veach, wife of Thomas Veach, 537-16) B: 1699, Richmond Co., VA., D: 1784, Fauquier Co., VA. He is listed as a public servant, furnishing beef and bacon to the army.

John Glasscock, Jr. (Grandfather of Ankah (Mellett) Veach, wife of Thomas Veach, 537-16) B: 1736, Fauquier Co., VA., D: 1817, Monongalia Co., VA. He is listed as a public servant, furnishing flour to the army.

Joshua Hickman (grandfather of Josiah Hickman, husband of Judith Veach, 537-165) B: 1766, Loudoun Co., VA., D: 1842, Henry Co., IN. Enl., 1779, age 13, serving as a horse handler.

Michael Holbert (Father-in-law of Sarah (Veatch) Holbert, 537-12, WeV1, P715) Enl., Loudoun Co. (VA) Militia.

Lewis Peyton (Father-in-law of Elizabeth (Veatch) Peyton, 534-18, WeV1, P421) B: 1763, VA., D: 1840, Harrison Co., IN. Enl., Col. Hawe's Regiment (Either the 5th or 6th Virginia Infantry), Cpt. Kirkpatrick's company.

Enoch Thomas (Gr-grandfather of Josiah Hickman, husband of Judith Veach, 537-165) B: 1754, VA., D: Fayette Co., PA. Enl., 9/14/1778, Loudoun Co. Militia. He was promoted to lt., 5/1781, and to cpt., 8/1782.
