***(Tecnicos) Joe Estrada, Sexy Boys I and II, and Puma vs (Rudos) Marlyss (?), Centella, Perverso and Some Guy .- AAA gives the opportunity to some young talent in this match, 6 out of the 8 workers here look no older than 25 years, and some might even be below 20.Be warned that I don't really know their names or how are them spelled, look for an update soon. Note: This is a one fall only match.
Only Fall.- One of they Sexy Boys-Centella start with matwork, more matwork with Joe Estrada and Marlyss, next it's el Perverso and Puma with... more matwork, but at a faster pace and some pin attempts. The other Sexyboy vs someguy, who fakes a foul but (amazingly) the referee's don't believe him, Centella and the other Sboy are back, SexyB jumps over Centella's head, lands in a rope, spingboards on it and falls on the rudo's shoulders, to later deliver 'tijeras' in a great fashion, Centella is out of the ring, SexyBoy baseballslides and ends delivering another 'tijeras' move on the floor. Action picks up from there with tecnicos dominating, Puma does a BlackWarrioresque 'tijeras' on Perverso, besides, lots of armdrags, 'quebradoras' and stuff like that... but soon los rudos react brawling, Perverso holds one of SBoy's legs while the SB was grabbing the rope and Marlyss jumps from the ringpost onto him with double stomps. The brawling last a while with the rudos doing some ok brawling-outnumbering moves, untill it's 'carreta' time and los tecnicos are back in the match. Both teams trade pin attempts, but a partner is always close to avoid the 3 count. Soon Joe, and Sexy boys are performing topes suicidas and planchas on the rudos, except for Marlyss, who is hited by a plancha in the center of the ring by Puma, next, Puma tries a Huracarana, but Marlyss reverses into a powerbomb and pin for the win.
I'm very happy with this match, considering that it had no 'big names' on it, it was as good as it get, I'm impressed with the way the match was constructed in a one fall format: matwork build up, brawling, reaction, high flying and a one on one showdown for the victory. The kids promise, sure they can get better, their work had few mistakes (at least compared to some juniors), but they also need to work in some original move that can give each of them an identity. Marlyss reminds me of Juvi 5 years ago, when he was a the unrespectfull young guy who wreaked havoc whenever he could. Good job by everyone...
***Relevos AAA: Dollar, Peso and Niño de la Calle vs Jose Ramona, Mini Psicosis and Rudy 'el Salvaje'.- Rudy is also a new guy, let me explain something about Jose Ramona, who plays a gay gimmick. Jose Ramon Fernandez (Ramona-- the 'a' turns the name gender from male to female) is TV Azteca's boss regarding anything that has to do with sports, besides he is a commentator, he HATES Televisa, and badmouths it whenever he can, so I guess that's why this character exists, even if Jose Ramona is rudo, not even Rivera or Zuñiga wants him and call Ramona a 'pathetic loser' or things like that, if you understand spanish, the comments turn out to be very funny (unless you're fan of Fernandez)---IMPORTANT this Jose Ramon(-who, btw, hates lucha) is not related to Jose Fernandez, the mantainer of Arena website.
1.- Maybe I was still happy from the previous effort, but I really liked this one as well, I wonder if Peso was Chivita before... many comedic spots with Peso doing 'Cantinflas'-like dance. Niño was his usual armdragging self, and connected a plancha from the ttb (top turnbuckle) on Rudy who was in the floor, it was a 'safe' cross body press, but Niño's face collided with Rudy's shoulder, Niño was knocked out, but that was about it, I feared something worse. Meanwhile, Dollar sat in the ttb to do a plancha on Mini Psicosis, run Mini!! Mini stands up but instead of running away, he goes for a frankensteiner... but Dollar won't move, powerbomb followed by 'planchita' by Peso and Mini Psicosis is pinned, Ramona is also pinned after a Vadder like plancha.
2.- Niño vs Ramona usual stuff, then a good 'tijeras' and armdrags secuence by Peso on MiniPsicosis, who ends in the floor, Peso then delivers a 'from the apron to the shoulders spining tijeras' move very Hijo del Santo-ish, next we seed the rudos are on comand (some bad editing here) and Dollar gets pinned after Ramona's senton, and Mini Psi takes Peso to a corner to try to do a dvd-powerbomb combo move (made by Halcon Negro on Olimpico Oct 11 recap).
3.- Mostly brawling with the rudos trip... double-and-a-halfing teaming on single tecnicos, eventually, Ramona misses a baseball slide and goes to the floor, Niño hits a second rope springboard moonsault... Rudy follows with a side press on both, next Peso hits a forward sault, Mini Psicoisis performs another somersault and lands... on the floor!!!! (ROTFL-me, not Psicosis...20 minutes later) Ramona get's back on the ring and low blows Dollar, and pins him to take the match, Rivera and Co can't believe it.
Very funny match, I laughed a lot. Mini Psicosis bump migth have been very dramatic if I had seen it live, but the comments made it a blast, Zuñiga claimed that Peso and Niño had cheated by moving away, and I guess he is right. No damage was done on Piscosis (at least he looked ok).The commenting team really saves the several missed spots, which is a big plus for AAA.
***Vipers vs Payasos.- If this was for the championship or not, it was never said, so I don't know.
1.-Unusual non-brawling start, Psicosis does some tecnico stuff with one of los Payasos, Mosco is tagged in and does a 'satellite kick' (spining dropkicks), but Coco Azul dominates with armdrags and quebradora, both teams trade moves for a while, untill Maniaco goes to the ttb but one Payaso armdrags him down and Maniaco is pinned, Coco Rojo puts Mosco in a crab, Psicosis misses a senton and is pinned.
2.-Payasos start brawling for a while, even with Tirante's help the Vipers can not react, eventually, Psicosis starts the comeback, and the Vipers brawl, Mosco hits a ´brincate burro drop', but Psicosis misses one (Maniaco was holding the Payaso not for a bbd, but to have two partners hit elbowdrops from the corners, so Psicosis tried a wrong move) even worse than Linda Star. Later, Psicosis is kicked out of the ring, and the rest of the Vipers send three payasos to the floor, to deliver triple somersault planchas!! Coco Amarillo and Psicosis are in the ring, the referees are seeing what is going on down of the ring, and Coco fakes a foul, Pepe Tropicasas DQ Psicosis. Los Payasos go to the comentors table and get the belts, but it seems Vipers are still the champs...
Very weird match, los Vipers were the tecnico team for almost all of the match, it is good to see thaty can brawl and also do some good matwork and flying stuff, it is a very good team, the atomicos, the rest is the team's soul, with Abismo's havoc and Ciber being the hated figure.
***Batos Locos vs Octagon, Hijo del Perro Aguayo, Latin Lover and Heavy Metal using Bruce Lee's Game of Death outfit.-Once again los Batos get to the semifinal, sending every other atomico teams to the third or less spot in the card.
1.- Brawling 'madrugete' by Batos, oddly, Picudo doesn't attack Perrito, as it is Nygma the one doing that job, as Manson goes for Heavy, Picudo for Octagon and May Flower's takes on Latin. Mediocre brawling for los Batos, as they did not tried any of their trademark moves, soon Nygma goes for a steel chair and shots Perrito several times, Perrito bleeds, Tropicasas DQed Batos, tecnicos take the first fall without making a single move.
2.- The brawling continues, at one point, it changes into a tecnicos brawling, Perrito takes revenge with chairshots at Nygma, later, Perrito with a low blow to Nygma, Perrito fakes a foul, Tirantes wants to DQ Perrito, but Tropicasas DQed Batos, Tirantes and Casas fight, soon Huicho arrives and they fight a while.
***Sangre Chicana (w/Batos Locos) vs Cibernetico (w/Vipers).- The first in a series of 'Rey del Escandalo' trophy, Series? Yep, too bad, it will be interesting if the winner is awarded 5 years of vacation...
1/2/3.- Ciber and Sangre do about 10 moves, which is 10 more I wanted to give them credit for... in the first fall, Batos pull down Ciber and start beating him, so Pepe Casas DQed Sangre, in the second, the same things, but with diferent luchadores, in the third, Mosco fouls Sangre and Ciber win.
I guess AAA could play an angle with Tropicasas being the worst referee in the world, he DQed Batos and Vipers for fake fouls, this time the foul was real, and he didn't see it. On past matches, Niño throwed water with soap on Espectrito, Pepe WAS LOOKING but said nothing, he DQed Miss Janeth for taking Sujei's mask off, which was not true, Demon took Abismo's mask off... etc.
Post Match: More brawling during an interview, Sangre said he was disappointed with his Batos Locos (Batos could get a big push if Sangre fires them), but Batos say they'll be better next. It seems that their last battle will be 5 vs 5 cage match with a similar format to WCW's war games, entering one luchador each 1 minute or so, and then the cage match starts. I guess this will be done on the 'Zona de Guerra' card.
EMLL, first match from Arena Coliseo, rest from Arema Mexico.
***Zumbido, Ultimo Guerrero, Karloff Lagarde and Violencia vs Tony Rivera, Astro jr, Tajiri and El Oriental.- This is a 'Cibernetico' match, this has nothing to do with Ciber from AAA, but to a special training group in EMLL. This match can be described as WWF survivor series matchs, in which tags HAS to be made, and brawling is not allowed, in fact, ring action has to be one on one (with some seconds of double teaming after tagging.) and there is one referee in the ring, and two DOWN at the floor.
** Tajiri and Zumbido with some good matwork, Tajiri has been training in the group for a while, next, Tony gets into the action and pace picks up, both end in the apron, Zumbido does a back flip to land on his feet in the floor, but Rivera perfors a Santo-like tijeras, Violencia hits a somersault plancha (hard to see, camera was distracted) on Tony, Tajiri vs Karloff, Tajiri performs heel kick, then quebradora, the rudo goes out of the ring. Ultimo faces Oriental, who performs several good looking armdrags and 'tijeras', Ultimo goes to the floor, Oriental jumps to the second rope (inside the ring, not in the apron) and springboards to the floor, landing on Ultimo's shoulders and doing 'tijeras' in a very good move. Ultimo is still stunned when Astro falls on him in a somersault plancha, while Zumbido hits a side plancha on one tecnico. Lagarde and Tajiri in the ring, close ti pining each other, but the japanese is the one defeated with a small package. I guess this was an upset pin, as I was really looking forward to seeing Tajiri and Oriental work, some reports say they had great matches last month.
Back in the match, action keeps at good rate, rudos dominate with hot tags, Rivera starts dominating Karloff and hits dropkicks from the ttb, and the rudo is out by pin. Astro gets the upper hand from his encouter with Zumbido, he was ready for 'la de a caballo' but Rivera enter and dropkicks Zumbidozky in the face, in other words, Rivera makes the save, action keeps back and forth, Oriental performs a 4 figure leglock on Violencia who can crawl close enough to the corner to make the tag, Oriental gets very close to defeating Ultimo, including a 'casita', but el rudo is able to kick out in time, and finally kicks into 'Tekken's King' gear and does two judo moves and a powerbomb to pin Oriental.
Astro and Violencia, the tecnico gets some ok moves, and gets some 2 count pins, Violencia reacts and tries a plancha from the ttb but misses and is pinned in a short rana. Zumbido goes for Astro, he ends falling out to the floor, Astro hits a not so good plancha, back in the ring, Zumbido connects a third rope springboard dropkicks, but is unable to take Astro out, Zumbido kicks again and Astro goes down to the floor to have Zumbido performing a somersault plancha, note that Ultimo and Tony did not entered the ring, as they had to be tagged in, but both luchadores were exahusted at this point of the match. Both return to the ring and Ultimo is tagged in, Astro has enough energy left to deliver some flips and tijeras, but Ultimo reverses a tijeras try out and slams the tecnico into the mat, and Astro jr is out.
Zumbido and Tony battle a while, the rudo ends out of the ring and tags Ultimo, Tony manages to put Ultimo out with a huracarana after jumping from the topturnbuckle (ttb). Zumbido vs Tony Rivera to decide which team is the winner. Tony with a frankensteiner, but can only get a 2 count, Tony goes to the ttb but misses a senton, Zumbido sees his chance and does a 'superstunner', followed by a powerbomb and ends the match pinning Rivera after a ttb moonsault!!!
Good match, but at the end the workers were too tired, still, Cibernetico matches might be the format of the future, they're very interesting and have better wrestling than atomicos tag match (besides, Cibernetico can have more than 4 member teams).Tony vs Zumbido might be --or is now-- the next undercard feud. Some people throwed money at the mat, something that happened also at the end of Olimpico vs Halcon mask match, sometimes people throw coins to the ring to damage the luchadores, but in this cases, it is to reward them for a good job, and some bills can also be seen.
***Halcon Negro, Fuerza Guerrera and Villano III vs Mr Niebla, Olimpico and Tinieblas jr.- Halcon Negro changed his clothes a little, he still uses the same colors and design, but the pants are more 'oriental-arabic' style. Mr Niebla is back very soon, which makes me wonder why he and his partners were stripped from the trios and tag matches.
1/2.- Pretty uneventfull first fall, as soon as Olimpico gets to the ring, he is attacked by Halcon Negro and brawling errupts, the rudos win the first fall wihtout breaking a sweat. In the second fall, the brawling continues, Halcon Negro takes Olimpico to the corner as if trying to deliver a side toss from the second rope, but the tecnico reacts and slasms Halcon's face to the mat, this makes Tinieblas and Niebla to react by brawling as well, next, things settle down a little and some one on one pairings later, Mr Niebla connects a Ultimon Dragon-like cartwheel and tope on Villano III. At the end, Mr Niebla misses an iside the ring quebrada but Fuerza sells and is pinned, while Villano submits to a Tinieblas jr hold.
3.- The last fall begins with some moderate brawling in which almost everyone gets their mask untied, later, Niebla hits another Dragonesque tope on Villano III who goes to the floor, Mr Niebla gets ready to do a tope, but Fuerza is there and stops him with an elbow hit, Fuerza whips Niebla to a corner... but Niebla jumps on a tope to Villano who is still in the floor!!! Tinieblas follows with a side plancha and only Halcon and Olimpico are left in the ring, I could see this coming from a 1000 light years: Olimpico starts a four figure leg lock, but Halcon takes off Olimpico's mask and the rudos are DQed.
*** Group B of the CMLL's tag champioship tournament:
* Dr Wagner and Satanico vs Felino and La Fiera.- Wagner's music is Bon Jovi's Bad Medicine, so I won't include him in the E D's Hall of Fame untill he changes his music to Dr Feelgood or at least drops the other song. Felino and Satanico start with some matwork trading moves for a long time, Wagner and Fiera are tagged in, and they take forever to start wrestling, when they do, Wagner has little trouble handling Fiera with some clothslines and shoulder blocks, Wagner powerslams Fiera, but the tecnico kicks out, Fiera uses a 'filomena' kick to send Wagner out so Felino and Satanico re enter the ring, now with a faster rythm, Felino goes for a 'casita' but misses or Satanico blocks, all four luchadores are in the ring and the tecnicos are looking better, untill Fiera misses a kick and sends Felino out, Fiera connects a plancha on Wagner and then a huracanrana, but can not get the 3 count, Fiera, instead of tagging Felino in, tries to deal with both rudos, but soon Wagner clothslines him and hits a michinoku II driver, Fiera is out! Felino is suplexed in, next Wagner goes to the ttb and lands a plancha on Felino... 1,2,3 Los Rudos advance to the next round.
* Blue Panther and Black Warrior vs Hijo del Santo and Shocker.- Blue whips Santo into a corner, Black Warrior was in the ttb and lands dropkicks, but Santo is able to react with a tijeras/armdrag combo, Shocker connects a plancha on Panther, the tecnico starts armdragging everyone in sight, Warrior dropkicks him and does a powerbomb, not enough to win, Panther and Warrior double team, and Black hits an inside the ring quebrada, Santo enters and gets double teamed as well, Black Warrior delivers a falling tope from the top rope, then Panther press slams him on Black's knee, Santo is taken to the ttb, and Warrior splashes on him, Shocker enters and balance the match a little, Blue Panther clothslines his nephew out of the ring and Shocher connects a plancha on Black, Blue Panther goes for a tope, but Santo hits him first with a tope of his own in the center of the ring. Santo tries his 'la de a caballo' but Panther blocks the several attempts by Hijo, who then counters a powerbomb with a huracarana, but gets only 2 count. Blue is pulled down by shocker, and the tecnicos deliver twin topes... back in the ring, Warrior misses a springboard kick and gets powerbombed by Shocker and pinned, Santo with a rana pins Panther too.
* Dr Wagner and Satanico vs Santo and Shocker.- The match starts very fast, in the first couple of minutes, Shocker went with killer tope suicida on Wagner, and Santo does another inside the ring tope on Satanico, and sets him for 'la de a caballo', but Satanico won't quit and Wagner dropkicks making the save, but seconds later, is in a 'casita' by Shocker, Wagner kicks out at 2. All four luchadores are in the ring, the tecnicos get 2 count pins, but then, Satanico revereses a huracanrana into a powerbomb and Wagner Death Valley Drived Shocker so rudos take the match!!!
The matches were better this week, but I'm puzzled with the outcome of the tourney, like I have said before, this looked as if EMLL wanted to increase the heat on Santo-Scorpio feud... now that Santo is out, this looks like a bad move from their part. Satanico and Wagner as champs make sense, as they both are CMLL individual champios (unless Satanico lost to Negro in the previous week, which I don't think happened).
***Head Hunters and Solomon Grundy vs Cien Caras, Mascara Año 2000 and Pierroth jr.- Do anyone expects me to write anything about this match? I guess the only thing of notice is that Pierroth might be feuding with los Dinamitas.I started this recap with the rookies in AAA which made a great effort, and the recap ends with this? Better luck next time.
COMMENTS.-
Both shows were good, it seems that lucha's 'dark age' is comming to an end, both promotions first matches showed why lucha is always huge( note: AAA was a low card match, Cibernetico tag match was the semifinal of an Arena Coliseo card), as every week or month, new luchadores arrive, some of them are not very good, but most of them can be interesting, and a few might become huge stars. Now I'm starting to believe that both promotions have about 200 members, which doesn't mean it is good, because they have to try to give all of them some showcase in 2 hours of tv show (each promotion). From now on, the cards have to get better, as EMLL prepares to get into the end of year mega cards, and AAA has 'Zona de Guerra' and 'Guerra de Titanes' to hype.
Zumbido triunfante!!
*** Halcon Negro, Fuerza Guerrera y Villano III vs Olimpico, Mr Niebla y Tinieblas jr.-
