This is just a quick recap about both shows.
AAA
Overall, the AAA cards have been weak for a while. The main event consited of Octagon, Heavy Metal and Blue Demon jr (???) over rudos Heavy Dracula, Kickboxer and Abismo Negro, at the end a huge brawl errupted between the rudos, as all of them are from diferent ' factions ', this was supposed to set the match for the ' verano de escandalo ' event from sept. 18.
Other matches in the card: Batos Locos vs Duro, Directo and Hijo del Perro Aguayo. Insectos vs Japanese team, and the first match had a bunch of little know wrestlers, most notably was 'el Niņo de la Calle' tecnico, who I have never seen him before. He looks OK, and did a plancha from the top turnbuckle, but that is something most wrestlers can perform. I wonder if that luchador will stay in AAA or is from Pachuca and it was his only match in that promotion.
I kind of missed the wrestling women match this week, featured for ' verano de escandalo ' is a 'relevos increibles' match teaming miss Janeth with one of the Moreno, and Xochitl with the other, I guess losing team members face each other in hair vs hair action.
The Guicho saga continues, there was a segment in which Dominguez and Tirantes 'negotiate' about bills and a wagon painting. Next, an 'expert in rich and famous personal security' advises Guicho to use bodyguards, but not any bodyguard, but luchadores. He introduces ' Dollar Americano' a (relatively) tall and fat masked guy, and promises to present next week the 'Peso Mexicano' I inmediatly thought it will be Mascarita Sagrada.
On the 'Duro y Directo' program, they showed 'Guicho' in the airport, arriving from L.A. only to find his wagon ridiculously painted and that his bodyguards could not do anything about it, the 'Peso Mexicano' was shown, and he was a midget, but I don't think it was Mascarita.
CMLL Arena Mexico
This show was much better than the AAA effort, but very short, with only three matches:
Hijo del Santo, Fuerza Guerrera and Villano III vs La Fiera, Negro Casas and Atlantis. A first match full of main eventers promised and delivered solid wrestling action, for weeks, the Santo return to the tecnicos seemed inevitable, but he and Casas started with their usual hard wrestling feud, in one part of the match, Negro tried to climb to the top turnbuckle but was kicked out of the ring by Santo, but before the silver wrestler could attempt the tope, Negro was back on the ring and attacking Santo!! But even that seemed to take second seat to the good tecnichal offering from Villano and Atlantis, I've never been a fan of any of the Villanos, but this one worked very good with many holds and counters..
Santo and his partners didn't get along very well, as they refused to tag or help him, eventually, Guerrera was on the turnbuckle and Santo bodyslamed Negro in that corner, Fuerza made a senton but Santo pulled Negro away, so Guerrera had to take the hard fall on himself. This made both rudos to team on Santo, and at last, Casas made the save, but things got even when Bestia Salvaje and Scorpio Jr. ran into the ring and a big and long brawl followed.
As a rudisimo fan myself, I don't like the fact that Santo went tecnico, especially since the posible masks vs masks match against Felino seems to be destroyed for now, problably a 'lucha de apuestas' with Santo and Scorpio will take place on Sept 18.
Also to comment, Atlantis and Villano teared each other masks, it seem they could really be feuding soon, a masks event of those two wrestlers could be one of the biggest event in the history, as both have a consistent 'mask winning' carrer, Villano III might only be behind Santo Jr in that kind of figths.
High flying Mister Aguila and 'lagunero' Ultimo Guerrero had their masks duel next. The wrestling was not as dramatic as most of these matches are, but the quality of it was better, many holds and power moves were performed, including a couple of impressive reverse flips by Aguila. As expected, they had to go to the third fall to decide who would lost his 'tapa'.
Mr Aguila looked as if he had the match in control, with many of his trademark moves and attacking with rythm and consistency, the most amazing was when he performed a 'stunner', the amazing thing about it, is that Guerrero was only damaged moderately (I guess that only in WWF it renders opponents usless), but the rudo took a few moments to recover and started using some high impact moves, including a reverse superflex which looked as definitive to me, as after a few other moves like a hiptoss and slams, Aguila had to surrender in a weird hold, that was called 'llave universal' by the commentators.
This and Santo's match were the two matches that were worth seeing, the last one had another of the lousy boricuans vs mexican stuff... still, the two other efforts were enought to consider CMLL doing a good job.
