AAA from San Luis Potosi.

*** Cuerno de Chivo (x), Jose Ramona and Galaxia (?) vs Venum (x), Niņo de la Calle and Mister Yama (or llama?).- Yama and Galaxia are two local wrestlers while Jose Ramona and Niņo are rookies in AAA. The San Luis natives start the match with some ok moves and next Jose Ramona and Niņo start wrestling. Venum and Cuerno had little activity, Cuerno likes to do back-fliping-planchas, and one of those and Galaxia forcing Niņo to quit with an 'el Cristo' hold gave the Rudos the first fall after some rudo brawling.

The brawling continued in the second fall, untill the rudos tried a 'carreta' on Niņo, that gave the tecnicos enough time to launch a counter attack, Cuerno de Chivo missed a flip-plancha and was pinned by Niņo, while Venum did a very weird move on JoseRamona and Yama did a somersault plancha from the top of the corner. The third fall, as expected, have the espectacular 'vuelos suicidas' from Niņo and Venum, but the whole match was spoiled with the rudos DQ as Galaxia fouled Yama.
I'm starting to like Niņo, he really shined in this match, while Venum had an uninspired effort, I wonder if it is the same wrestler from a time back... returning to Niņo, his moves were good, with many armdrag reversals, my favorite was one in which he escaped a powerbomb from Ramona and sent him outside of the ring. Too bad he's a tecnico... anyway, AAA's lack of tecnicos might take this young wrestler to a meteoric rise.

***Highligts of the Kamikazis vs Insectos from the previous show, they showed how the top rop broke and how it affected the topes attempts, apparently, due to that rope incident, a rematch was booked for San Luis, they also ran how the Japanese team used a costal (a bag) on one of the insectos, apparently that should be DQ, as the insectos always get that, but referee Casas just counted the fall. Instead of showing the full match in San Luis, they only had highlights, in which the mexicans finally used the costal and Casas stoped Tirantes, and made the count himself! It seems they might try to do a Mexico vs Japan thing there...

***Los Vipers vs Chiva I and II, El Novillero and el Mexicano..- The entire match had little wrestling as it had the now classic Vipers megaheel brawling spree and easily beated the tecnicos, who could only get two short comebacks.. Oscar Sevilla (el Novillero) went for a chair to even the odds, but he was the victim of that chair, as Psicosis used it to deliver a top turnbucke senton on the chair over Sevilla. Tecnicos got the first fall via DQ. In the second, the brawling continued and after a brief comeback attempt from the tecnicos, the Vipers scored the win, only to lose the third after striping Novillero's shirt and kicking and punching him wildly, the 'exeso de rudeza' was declared and the Vipers received another DQ.

In a way, this is the ultimate rudo victory, winning a fall and DQ the other two, but it had few of the spots lucha fan seeks for, the tecnicos' reaction came after Novillero performed a double armdrag on two of the Vipers and then, nearly killed himself with a moonsault plancha, next Chiva (II?) did a plancha from the top rope on Electroshock, and the other Chiva tried a spinnig plancha from the top turnbuckle into the ring over Psicosis, but the Viper received him with 'Kangaroo kick' on the chest and ended the posible tecnicos' return. One thing to note: two of the tecnicos were with their arms in the ropes and two Vipers were holding them by the legs so that thier teammates could jump over their heads and land on the tecnicos (anyone knows how this move is called?) the amazing thing is, that after that punishment, some of the public chanted 'otra, otra,otra'... is finally the public going rudo?
In fact, when the Vipers tried to repeat the move, the Novillero and a Chiva took them out of the ring, and the second comeback from the 'good guys' took place, but this had no flyier moves, just some awfull tecnicos brawling, which in short, the rudos eneded it and then beated Novillero quite badly.

***Abismo Negro vs Blue Demon Jr.- Chain match. AAA has tried many gimick-matchs, I have some mixed feelings about cage matches, and this chain stuff is even worse, the wresrlers have too few freedom of move to use their style, the only gimick I guess could be succesfull is the lumberjack match, those are really fun.
This match was almost average, Kickboxer and Heavymetal acted as cornermen. Abismo got in command of the duel early on with some cloth-chain-line shots, and then, produced an aerosol can and a lighter to burn and leave Demon jr as a bloody mess. Demon managed to take the can and use it himself and then almost took Abismon's mask off, in fact, it was the Viper who briefly took it away once or twice. Although, Demon was blooding so bad as to make Perro look normal, he started to get the control of the match, but Tirantes send the Jr. down with a kick, Heavymetal argued with the heel referee and KIckboxer used the distraction to throw some punches on the Blue masked (with lots of red).
Blue was sent down the ring and Abismo tried a baseball slide, but connected Kickboxer instead, another reaction from Demon, but Kickboxer went for a ladder (it was very short) and Abismo slamed it on his foe several times, finally, Heavy got involved and started stomping on Abismo so the Tirantes gave the DQ and the Viper was the winner.
But the after the match, other Vipers arrived and 'cruxified' Heavymetal, taking him outside of the Arena and handcuffed him to a post (after beating him of course.) Cibernetico had the key around his neck and he went back to the ring to get ready to 'wrestle' while the rest of the Vipers stayed kicking and stomping the former Canelo Casas.
***Cibernetico, Hijo del Cobarde, Fhurer and Kickboxer vs Perro, Hijo del Perro, Latin Lover and Heavy Metal, who still was chained outside of the arena. Could this be considered as a rescue match? I don't know, I guess they take this from ECW or FMV or any of those 'extreme' promotions. Very little wrestling here, and at least half of the time, they showed us how Metal was still trapped. The original Cobarde was also there, supporting his son, (he had an ICW shirt too much like nWo), the rudos wouldn't let hijo del Cobarde have any participation in the match. Somehow, the tecnicos win the first fall, and one of the commentators, Andres Maroņas, asks Latin Lover to go rescue Heavy Metal, but Lover replied that according to Arturo Rivera, Maroņas was drunk.
But Perro Jr went to find out tha it was true, but he had no key with him, he goes back to the ring and Perro get it and handles it to his son, who is stoped by Cobarde Jr and then by Cobarde, the Perro makes it a father/son team and it is Latin Lover who finally gets to set free the beated Heavvymetal. Then the two tecnicos chase the vipers to the locker room and head to the ring, when they get there they are informed that they had win the match, thus the theory that the match was to set Heavy free rather than anything else. The brawling continues and Antonio Peņa comes out and eventually the tecnicos are leaved as the winners.

Comments.

The 'Lucha libre del extremo' approach continues, a brief list of the stuff that went in this show: Chain match, use of aerosol + ligther, ladder, creative uses of chair, cruxifiction, lots of out of the ring brawling and the rescue match. I kind of missed the female wrestlers and the Batos Locos, more info about this in the news section.

CMLL Arena Mexico.-

This is the 65 anniversary card, so in theory is one of the big shows, more or less an equivalent to wrestlemania.

***Dr.Wagner, Universo 2000 and Steele vs Rayo de Jalisco and Head Hunters.- The card promised with the first match having the great Wagner, Universo, (imo) the best of the Hermanos Dinamita by far, and Steele, (Sean Morley) The tecnicos, by comparition were big on the name, but the rudo team quality was better.
First fall.-After some wrestling with the tecnicos getting the better part, mostly is brawling, Steel had control over Rayo but they spend most time out of the ring brawling, while Universo and Wagner punish and then pin the Dominican brothers.
Second fall.- The rudos still in command, but eventually Rayo and the Hunters even the match when Rayo takes Steel downring and starts trading blows and slams him to the post and permatnent chairs. After some alternate brawling, things settle down and both teams return to their corner, Rayo faces Steel agian and sends him down, to then perform a tope dive that makes Undertaker's efforts as masterpieces. The Hunters set the masked rudos to smash them, but the mexicans dodge the attack and the dominican crash with themselves. Still, they manage to send the rudos down and perform their planchas. Rayo and Steel get back to the ring, Rayo attempts a couple of pins but Steel kicks out, next, Steel gives a squeeze at Rayo's family jewels and slam him to pin and end the match. Not bad, but far from great match.

***Hijo del Santo, Atlantis,Negro Casas and La Fiera vs Fuerza Guerrera, Villano III, Bestia Salvaje and Scorpio jr. Atomicos tag team is not that common in EMLL and this came somehow as a surprise, since a Santo vs Scorpio Masks match was expected. Before the duel, they ran an angle with Negro and Santo. The rudos also get their words on tv.
First fall.-After the classic initial brawling, both teams go to their corner and one on one pairings start, they are too short as tags are done constantly, after a while, the rudos start double and triple teaming to take Fiera and Negro out of combat and then they put Santo in 'la esquina del dolor', earning the DQ.
Second fall.-There was no recess, the brawling continued, but it was not the brawl in which the tecnicos are helpless and overwhelmed, they gave a good fight, but the rudos style made them prevail, Fuerza, Villano and Scorpio tried to take Santo's mask off, but the tecnicos made the save and Atlantis ripped the Villano's mask open. Santo summits Scorpio with 'la de a caballo' but the tecnicos are not awarded with the fall, as the rudos pin Negro and I guess he was the captian or something because they won that fall.
Third fall.- Action keeps high with everyone brawling, Santo almost removes Scorpio's mask, and it comes off accidently in one of his moves. Atlantis and Villano face each other, Villano seems to get the upper hand and tears Atlantis mask, but the Villano has to summit to 'la Atlantida', Fuerza is then aslo put on that hold but is saved by Bestia, who helps Fuerza to summit Atlantis, Fiera controls both and sends Fuerza down with a kick, Bestia tries to whip him to the ropes but he jumps over then in a plancha dive on Guerrera, meanwhile, Negro holds Bestia to the mat and Santo performs a diving tope from the top turnbuckle and Negro scores the pin and the victory.
***Hair match--Ricky Santana vs Apollo Dantes.- Litle wrestling here, Apollo starts bleeding early on the confrontation, and the Puerto Rican scores the pin with a plancha, in the second fall, Dantes even the match with Santana summiting to a 'cerrajera'(double armbar) and making him to bleed. Dantes lost his hair after being punched by Boricua, while Miguel Perez distracted the referee, the punch left Apollo open to being powerbombed a couple of times and pined.
Dantes didn't wanted to lose his hair, and challenged Ricky to a caged match, but the rest of the boricuas arrived and Apollo had to lose his hair.
***Mascara Aņo Dos Mil, Emilio Charles and Cien Caras vs Kevin Quinn, Miguel Perez and el Boricua.- This was a little better than the previous one, but still, I don't feel like writing about it, just: Mexico the first, Foreigners the second and Mexico with a DQ in the third.

Comments.- Well, it is not hard to guess I'm not happy with EMLL, mainly because this was suposed to be a huge show and it eneded up being short. The card had good names, but the 'main' events came up as less than average.

It was nice to see Steel there, I guess that with Val Venis success, the chances of seeing Morley in Mexico were gone, but who knows, still, I don't think there is room for a 'mask vs hair' duel, as nor WWF would want to see Venis bald (Stone Cold Venis?), neither Rayo could lose his mask.

The thing that upsets me more is that with exactly the same wrestlers CMLL used in this show, they could have made a memorable card, a simple Santo/Casas vs Bestia(or Fuerza)/Scorpio, ecen without the masks at the line, would had been great compared to the boricuans saga, which, hopefully will came to an end this next program.

On the other hand, I liked AAA more than EMLL, and they had not improved that much over the last weeks, and the quality is still not that great, but at least it was interesting, I hope they can get their act together, it seems that right now, the public is with them, but the people is upredictable and they might not accept the 'extreme' style everywhere.

Programas del 20 de septiembre.

AAA
