March 21, FILL-AAA, From Torreon Coahuila, Auditorio Municipal.
*** Bala de Plata and Aspid vs Barrio Boy and Imperio Negro (one fall match).- Aspid was a ninja/karateca type guy, although I don't remember him having a martial artist style, I don't know if Bala de Plata was the guy there, he looked as nothing that resembles a 'silver bullet', anyway, they worked good for the opener, went for about 10 minutes, the tecnicos tried and almost did some creative armdrags and spots, but the ropes were TOO LOOSE and I think it affected their work, anyway, they did the 'train wreck' spots with 3 topes/planchas to the outside of the ring. Tecnicos took the match after simultaneous huracanranas. There was no padding or wood down of the ring, only hard cement floor, so ouches go to the topes and planchas done to the outside of the ring.
*** Disc Jockey and Boy Rocker vs Forajido and Ultimo Revelde -- the first card had Stuka jr there, and the flyer they give away with the ticket purchase had Ultimo Revelde, I didn't realize there was a Ultimo Revelde in promo Azteca, I don't think it was this guy, hell, I can't tell who was Revelde and who was Forajido, neither tell who Disc Jockey or Boy Rocker is, or if it was them at all. One of the tecnicos arrived with a kilt, but he looked like a mini-Val Venis. This match was OK, the mini-Venis looked good, and the match was very funny because the referee took a lot of bumps, tecnicos would armdrag or do tijeras to him as if he was a rudo, of course, I asked to see the commissioner since the tecnicos would have to be DQd... Overall, the rudos looked more experienced and could dominate most of the time, at the end, mini-Venis nailed one of the rudos with a tope suicida, but the other rudo put took the match after a 'la de a caballo', I guess the other 2 guys were counted out.
*** Rudy Reyna, Bello David and Dr Muerte vs Maravilla Azteca, Intrepido and Halcon de Oro.- Huge heat and a hilarious match, with more sodomy-comedy spots you could think off, this had less flying, more brawling, and gay-spots: the classic kiss-to-break-hold or walking around the ring like a butterfly, Rudy yelling 'that's my boy' when Bello David (I guess it was him, even if the flyer said 'La Mascara'); there was a spot in which one of the tecnicos put a rudo into a submission hold, Rudy entered and... bite the tecnico's butt!!! Then a tecnico, rudo, tecnico, rudo followed, the referee got into the craze and inspected the last rudo's butt to see if he would take a bite... then refused and walked away, unluckily for him, he passed near Rudy and got bitten as well!!! The brawling was all over the ring area, sometimes the rudos teased a fight with each other, etc. In the third fall, rudos won the match via blind foul.
*** Mascara Sagrada jr. Stuka and Asterisco vs Electro Shock, Coco Amarillo and Rene Guajardo jr.- Coco Amarillo working a non-tv-taping? Stuka is one of the local workers who seems to have some name value (he even was going to sub for Heavy Metal at the Plaza de Toros show -see link-). Now I'll know who Asterisco is... Asterisco is a guy who was unmasked by Hijo del Santo in late '98, he was using a mask here!!!I started a weak 'Fraude!' chant with the guys around me, everyone got pissed when they learn about the guy losing his mask and using it now... The match had a little better ringwork than the previous efforts, with Electro Shock taking his bumps, and Mascara Sagrada performing a little sharper than half a year ago in which he would blown 11 out of 10 spots. Actually, Sagrada jr blew a somersault plancha from the apron as he missed the rudo by 85%. Besides that, more brawling, Coco Amarillo was weird, he works as tecnico in AAA and the kids didn't knew what to do with him... he and Asterisco got into the masks-unlacing grounds, and the end had Coco Amarillo throwing his mask to Asterisco, and the referee DQd the tecnicos!!!
- Mil Mascaras, Octagon, Murcielago and Valente Fernandez vs Jerry Estrada, Pentagon, Herodes and Medico Asesino jr.
I saw Murcielago at one of AAA's shows last year, Valente Fernandez, I remember that guy from some 8-10 years ago, he feuded with Blue Panther here in Torreon. Herodes is from Moclova (like Jerry and Parka), and I guess he is as old as Mil Mascaras... This should be a typical main event which turns out to be not as good, but with Octagon and Mil Mascaras there, you can bet that the crowd will go crazy, at least Pentagon and Jerry will be there... I was curious to see if Octagon gets a bigger pop than Mil Mascaras, but at the end, they came out at the same time, and the crowd sort of was distracted or something as they didn't get the gigantic pop they normally get. In the first fall, Octagon, Pentagon and Jerry worked really fast, and of course, Jerry and Pentagon where taking their bumps, although Jerry wasn't into his powerbombs like the last he was on AAA. Somehow, Medico Asesino, Murcielago and Valente were draged into the speed of the first fall, which was good, and the tecnicos won. The second fall saw the brawling, as they constantly flinged (or is it flung?) the tecnicos over to the crowd!! When someone would attack Mil Mascaras, a lot of guys shouted 'respect your elder, you punk!'!!! Rudos took the second fall, in the final fall, the brawling continued, the tecnicos reacted and took some revenge, they fought for some time and the ending had (this happened but the names might be wrong) Valente pining Medico Asesino, then Jerry defeating Murcielago, Valente and Jerry did double clotheslines which brought them down, so Octagon and Pentagon could pin them, Pentagon did his 'taking off his own mask' spot with Octagon, at the end, Octagon did the russian leg sweep + octaclutch hold, Herodes ran to make the save but Mil Mascaras got him first with a ttb plancha. So the match went to the tecnicos, after that, Herodes and Valente argued for a while and Valente asked for a hair vs hair match, but every show ever ends in some sort of challenge, so who knows, I would like to see Jerry take Valente's hair...
Overall, the show was OK, maybe I could enjoy this thing as well as I should since it was kind of expensive, they had the same price tags than the AAA's TV taping show, and AAA card was much better (see below), besides beer was 10 pesos, (about 1 dollar, but not cheap by Mexican standards). The ring and some of the staff used t-shirts with the legend 'Mascaras y Cabelleras 2000', which, I guess, is the name of the prommo, they even had a couple of tv cameras, I asked the guys where were them showing the tape, and they said they televised the shows in Monterrey's channel 2!! I don't think this is the same prommo as the one who holds shows in Monterrey at Arena Coliseo and that air the shows locally as well, so maybe there is more competence concerning tv lucha!! The other thing that made me not to enjoy this card that much was that I saw both AAA and CMLL shows while taping them (normally I don't watch them 'live' if I'm taping them), and then started the TV report so watched all AAA and Shocker vs Black Warrior matches before going to the Auditorium, so I was kind of burned out... Next week it will have 'el Pocho Maldito' Sangre Chicana, and Tinieblas w/Alushe, and Octagon and Pentagon will be back!!!
