16 men battle royal: Blue Panther, Ultimo Guerrero, Fishman, Villano III, Tinieblas, Rey Bucanero, Shocker, Mr Niebla, Olimpico, Tinieblas jr, Atlantis, Mascara Sagrada, La Parka, Fuerza Guerrera, Violencia and Hijo del Santo.- I was surprised to see
La Parka and Mascara Sagrada actually fighting here, more surprised to se La Parka Simmons, since he was used a KISS look!!! This line up was better than last year, since here there were no Zapatista, Morgue or Guerrero del Futuro, I would have liked to
see Black Warrior, Dr Wagner jr and Lizmark instead of Fishman, Tinieblas jr and Sr.
-- The battle royal starts with everyone slapin the luchador closer to him, Blue Panther goes after Atlantis (what was Villano doing?) and places him on the top turnbuckle, but Mascara Sagrada dropkicks them both!! Atlantis goes to the floor ending his
participation in this segment, but Blue Panther manages to fall in the apron and stay alive... for now. Tinieblas Sr puts Fuerza Guerrera into a bearhug, but I don't know if submission and pins were legal here... Ultimo Guerrero is busy trying to toss
Santito off the ring, Parka made the save. Lots of slapping everywhere, Ultimo Guerrero does his reverse corner suplex from the ttb on Olimpico, everyone piles on the fallen tecnico, the referee made the 3 count and Olimpico is out!! (So my question is
now answered). Violencia, Ultimo Guerrero and Rey Bucanero go after Mascara Sagrada, triple teaming on him, forcing him to submitt to a team submission hold. Fuerza and Santito had been fighting for a while now... Panther assists his compadre Fuerza in
Santito's attack, Panther is sitting on the ttb and carries Santito into his shoulders, but Parka prevents Santo's elimination.
Hijo del Santo ends on Parka's shoulders while fighting Panther, but then Bucanero brings him down in a back breaker!! Mr Niebla has Ultimo Guerrero into a swastica, Panther makes the save, gets ready to powerbom Niebla, but is back body dropped out of the ring!! Rey Bucanero is working on Hijo del Santo's mask, Violencia, Bucanero and Parka team up on Fuerza, Bucanero uses the scorpion death lock to put Fuerza Guerrera out. Mr Niebla nais Violencia with a carth wheel reverse tope combo, then Parka goes to the top to deliver a tornillo and get the pin on Violencia!! Parka uses his comedy spots, but even Hijo del Santo gets mad at him and Bucanero clotheslined him out of the ring, Hijo de Santo and Mr Niebla team up on Rey Bucanero (they're the 3 guys left this far), but Niebla hits dropkicks on Hijo, so Bucanero bodyslams Niebla and goes to the top, but Niebla got him up there to deliver a frankensteiner with both men standing over the ttb!! However, Niebla tries a senton, but misses and is pinned. Hijo del Santo and Rey Bucanero fought a little longer, Santito won with a diving tope and 'la de a caballo'. I couldn't see how the Tinieblases, Fishman and Shocker were eliminated.
*** Villano III and Hijo del Santo vs Shocker and Rey Bucanero.- It's three rudos and only Santito as tecnico, but Shocker and Bucanero soon start beating them both, mostly a long brawling, Bucanero hangs Santito upside down from the top turnbuckle. They
slam Villano toward Santo, later, Villano managed to reverse the whip and Santito kicked Bucanero on the face!! Santo and partner react, Villano kicks into semi-tecnico mode and manhandles both rudos. Then is Santito's turn to do that, ending with a tope
suicida that nailed Rey Bucanero! Villano III armdrags Shocker from the ttb, and then uses la swastica to put him away. Hijo del Santo and Villano III go home with their masks intact.
*** Fishman and La Parka vs Tinieblas jr and Mr Niebla .- Tinieblas jr and Fishman fight for a while, nothing too special there, Parka goes to fight Mr Niebla, Parka does his comedy stuff and dances, they both start to jump all over the ring, Mr Niebla
ends on the better end of their duel with some armdrags. I think they cut out some stuff, since we can see Tinieblitas hitting an over the top cross body plancha on Fishman, that came out of nowhere... Mr Niebla helps Parka back to the ring, goes to the
top, but Parka kicks him and Mr Niebla crotches himself! It should have been called a foul, but they let it continue, everyone edns on that corner, Niebla hits both of his opponents with missilekicks, uses a small package to pin Parka, but Fishman made
the save, they trade some near falls with someone making the save. After many attempts, the tecnicos sent Fishman out of the ring, leavin Parka open to be decked with a diving reverse tope from Mr Niebla! The three count follows.
*** Fuerza Guerrera and Tiniebls Sr vs Atlantis and Violencia.- Atlantis vs Fuerza Guerrera, they trade some moves. Tinieblas does the 5 moves he knows on Violencia, which are used only to have Alushe hitting a planchita. Atlantis beats Fuerza around, the
tecnico hits a back body drop, then a quebradora con giro, then puts Fuerza on 'la Atlantida', it looked as if Guerrera had submitted, but Alushe distracted Atlantis, Fuerza slammed the tenico and used 'la de a caballo' to defeat him! Tinieblas used a
'el nudo' to beat Violencia.
*** Blue Panther and Olimpico vs Ultimo Guerrero and Mascara Sagrada .- Ultimo and Panther open the match with some matwork, most of the first round matches were into this style. More into the championship style, maybe they forget that their mask are on
the line. After a few minutes, Ultimo Guerrero dropkicks Panther out of the ring, so Mascara Sagrada can hit him with a tope suicida! Ultimo and Olimpico pick the pace up, at the end, Olimpico uses a twisting frankensteiner to send Ultimo Guerrero to the
floor, so the tecnico could hit his top rope springboard plancha!!! Panther made it back to the ring but Mascara Sagrada hits missile kicks on him, then gets a couple of 2 counts with ranas, on the third attempt, Panther reverses to get his pin attempt,
but Mascara kicks out, Blue Panther uses dropkicks to send him to the floor, Panther goes to the top to deliver a side plancha!!! Guerrero adn Olimpcio trade slaps, Guerrero brings Olimpico down with a clothesline, but the tencnico then pulls a small
package for a 2 count... Ultimo places Olimpico on the top to deliver the reverse superplex and gets the pin. Panther goes battling Ultimo, but cann't put the 'nudo lagunero', Mascara Sagrada uses a German suplex to beat him.
--- Fishman and La Parka vs Shocker and Rey Bucanero.- Once again, the youngsters are not that respectfull and launch the brawling offense. They whip them everywhere and even use the starfish hold, Fishman and Parka start comming back, no team gets
control on the match. Shocker and Bucanero do some teamwork, then is time for Parka's comedy dance. Fishman and Bucanero hit each other with double clotheslines, partners get the pins, so its now Shocker vs Parka. Parka with a kick to the head for a 2
count, Shocker hits a powerbomb but refuses to make the cover, another powerbomb, Shocker pulls Parka's head at 2, Parka reverses the third powerbomb into a hurracanrana to take the match!!
--- Blue Panther and Olimpico vs Atlantis and Violencia.- This match was not shown. But is a safe bet to say tha Atlantis and Violencia won.
*** Blue Panther and Olimpico vs Shocker and Rey Bucanero.- Shocker and Rey B start beating their opponents up, they lose no time and go for the masks! Of course, Rey Bucanero had been feuding with Olimpico for a long time then, so they had to fight here. Olimpico starts the combeback by flinging Rey Bucanero to the third row, then goes after Shocker, when Bucanero gets back to the ring, Olimpico rips his mask open. There was a lot of heat in this match, with everyone bleeding, Panther brawled with Shocker all over the crowd area. Panther sets Bucanero ready for a doomsday device from Olimpico, Shocker and Bucanero take their breath back and team on Olimpico, Shocker sent Panther out of the ring, so Bucanero could hit his powerbomb + fireman carry powerbomb. Olimpico was pinned!!! They both start beating Panther, but Shocker hits dropkicks on Rey Bucanero, Shocker teases doing martinetes on Panther (maybe to remember Love Machine), and gives him like 20 slaps, but Blue Panther pulls the fujiwara armbar to force Shocker quit!!! Bucanero powerbombs Blue Panther for a 2 count, a crucifix for a second near fall, third attempt with a small package. Shocker distracts the referee, Bucanero low blows Panther!! He covers... Olimpico distracts the referee, Shocker enters into the ring, the referee went after him, Olimpico hits a ddt on Rey Bucanero and place Blue Panther on top for the final count. The crowd errupted in a megatonic pop!!
***** Shocker vs Rey Bucanero.- Final match, mask vs mask.
--- Soon, Rey Bucanero throws Shocker out of the ring, and goes for his out of control over the top rope plancha with tornillo!!! Rey Bucanero attacks Shocker on the apron, and armdrags him into the ring, covers for the pin but Shocker kicks out. They
trade some clotheslines and corner splashes. Powerbomb for another 2 count from Rey Bucanero. Rey Bucanero hits his finisher with the powerbomb + fireman carry powerbomb, but cann't put Shocker out ( I think that the count was too slow). Rey Bucanero
goes to the top, but is shoved out of the ring by Shocker, then is time for Shocker's over the top back body drop plancha!!! Shocker delivers a bodyslam for another 2 count, they go out of the ring to keep brawling, Shocker beats Rey Bucanero in the
crowd area, after a while, they made it back to the ring, Shocker hits a bodyslam, and hits a ttb moonsault for yet another close fall! Another bodyslam, Shocker hesitates going to the top again... halfpowerbomb, STF! Will Bucanero submit? No, he goes for
the ropes and breaks the move, they both go down via double clotheslines. Bucanero crawls for the cover, to no avail, Shocker delivers 'la casita'. Shocker goes for another half powrbomb but Rey Bucanero blocks it by grabbing the ropes, he flips out and
does a silly submission hold, it seems that Shocker quitted and Dr Morales even said that the match was over, Rey Bucanero went raising his arms celebrating, but of course, you cann't make a subission hold in the ropes... Shocker decks Rey Bucanero with a
clothesline and then uses a Death Valley Driver, Shocker doesn't goes for the cover, but then puts Rey Bucanero into the side torture rack to score the match and Rey Bucanero's mask!!
The crowd was with Rey Bucanero, but didn't quite got into it, and they sounded as if they were upset from the outcome of the match, maybe the whole event. Rey Bucanero said to be Arturo Ortiz, 9 years as luchador and nephew to Pirata Morgan. I think
this year's ruleta was better than 98's, it has half the luchadors, and the quality was much better, big surprises seeing Mascara Sagrada and Parka, I thought they had cancelled their participation. I don't like how they made the end, maybe they needed
to give Shocker a big push, and it would be too obvious having Olimpico or Hijo del Santo taking the mask...
