Awakened
Opening credits of complete cast over a montage of cemetery photographs. INT. COFFIN-CLOSE UP LOW ANGLE OF SHOES The camera rises and starts to move up the body in an overshot. His clothing is a tux common of funeral’s. The camera makes it to his face, and then starts to zoom in to an extreme close up of the eye. The eye suddenly opens, and you hear his breathing. INT. COFFIN-CLOSE UP SETH’S FACE He is shocked, confused, not knowing where he is. Confined, and stuck somewhere very tight, and yet he doesn’t know why, what, where, or how. INT. COFFIN-TIGHT WIDE SHOT PROFILE OF HIS RIGHT ARM. He struggles to free his arm from the side. His body in the foreground as he is testing out box around him. feeling for it’s limits, and texture. INT. COFFIN-LOW ANGLE SHOT OF HIS UPPER BODY. He tries to lift his face up to look at his arms. It is a struggle for him, and he has a hard time keeping his slightly out of shaped body up for long. He gives up and falls back to look straight up. INT. COFFIN-WIDE SHOT RIGHT ARM It slowly makes it’s way from his side. The camera stays fixed as the hand disappears into darkness. His body, darkly in the background. INT. COFFIN-CLOSE UP FACE His eyes look back and forth, scared, and suspicious. Then they rest forward and he starts to squint trying to see, raising his head trying to see in the darkness. INT. COFFIN-SETH’S POV In the Darkness Seth is reaching and tracing the top of the coffin, then he brings the hand towards his face where it just starts to be able to be seen in the darkness. Then he stretches it back out again to the top of the coffin. Then brings it back into his view again. CROSS CUT INT. CAR-NIGHT, MEDIUM SHOT PROFILE OF SETH Seth is behind the wheel of a car. Rain is beating down on the windshield He is squinting to see. Bent forward to the window. He turns from the road for a second to look at the radio and turns it on. CROSS CUT INT COFFIN-SETH’S POV His eyes adjust more, and he can now see his hand as it runs along the white silk lining of the coffin. He still doesn’t know where he is. He starts to run his hand down the length of the coffin, and the camera starts to follow from his hand down to his elbow which is too far for him to see anything more than darkness. INT. COFFIN-MEDIUM SHOT OF UPPER BODY Seth leans forward to looks at his clothes and himself as he is beginning to have an idea of where he is, and what it is that has happened. He falls back to laying down position and starts to shake his head..
Seth No, no, no, no, NNOOooo
CROSS CUT INT. CAR-FULL SHOT The highway through the windshield. The windshield wipers are wiping furiously. The headlights can barely be seen. CROSS CUT INT. COFFIN,-CLOSE UP SETH’S FACE. A small spider-daddy long legs- starts to crawl across his face. Around his mouth and nose. INT. COFFIN-EXTREME CLOSE UP OF THE SPIDER’S LEGS ON SKIN The leg as it moves across skin. INT. COFFIN-EXTREME CLOSE UP OF SETH’S EYE He is looking down, terrified. Watching as he can feel the tingle of the spider’s legs as it nears the opening of his mouth. He fears of it, going into him. He can’t stand the thought of it touching the interior of his mouth’s wall. INT. COFFIN-CLOSE UP SETH’S FACE.
Seth Noooo!!!!
He takes a breath, and then starts to shake his head. Seth gasping Air...I need air. can’t....breath INT. COFFIN-CLOSE UP SETH’S HAND He is starting to frantically dig at the top of the coffin. He starts to pull back material in his hands and then he is clawing at the wood. INT. COFFIN- CLOSE UP HIS OTHER ARM He is struggling frantically to free his other hand. After a few desperate failures because he is trying to free it to fast, he eases his arm up, and freeing it. INT. COFFIN-SETH’S POV OF BOTH HIS HANDS He is looking up at his hands as they are clawing frantically to dig. Blood starts to run down his hand. INT. COFFIN-MEDIUM PROFILE OF LEWIS He has broken through the wood of the top of the coffin, and is now pulling clods of dirt in which some of them seems to fall to his face. He is spitting out dirt while continually digging. EXT. CEMETERY-CLOSE UP THE TOP DIRT OF A FRESH GRAVE. His hand slowly emerges from it, struggling. He grabs a handful of dirt, and pulls it down. FADE TO BLACK END OF SCENE 1 FADE IN-Midnight with a Full Moon EXT. CEMETERY NEAR A FRESH GRAVE. MEDIUM SHOT OVER HEAD OF SETH The grave is out of frame, and a grassy meadow could strategically be substituted.. He lies near the freshly dug out of grave, and is breathing heavily. His eyes are closed. The camera moves in a little closer as he starts to calm down. He is filthy with dirt. Then his eyes open, and there is a quick voice over of his thoughts. He turns his head to the side, and starts to whimper. The tears come harder as he turns his head back forward and starts to pound it back against the ground. He becomes more frantic and starts to scream. He has started to lose it while the camera pulls back, revealing all of the tombstone’s glistening in the moonlight. CROSS CUT INT. GUARDHOUSE-MEDIUM SHOT OF WILLIAM. The camera starts over William’s shoulder to show him “watching” television. The camera then starts to rotate around him until the camera is just above the television to catch him reading a novel, while listening to the television. William looks up from his television. He puts down his novel and grabs his cigarettes. He lights up a smoke. Then grabs his shovel and walks away from the camera, to head outside. EXT. OUTSIDE GUARDHOUSE-FULL SHOT LOW ANGLE CENTERING ON GUARDHOUSE DOOR. William emerges from the guardhouse holding his cigarette in his left hand and his shovel in his right. He has a lazy strut to him, that says he really doesn’t want to go out into the graveyard, and that he really just doesn’t care if something is happening out there. Hell, it’s only a part time job. EXT. OUTSIDE GUARDHOUSE-FULL SHOT SLIGHT LOW ANGLE slight low angle of the gate. There is a tombstone in the foreground to the left side of the frame. William looks in the direction of the camera and then turns toward the tombstone(camera) and starting to walk towards the cemetery. There are cars passing by outside the gate. William turns around briefly to his last hope of escape. He doesn’t want to investigate. He’s worked there for a few months, and has never heard any noises before. Why should there be one now. He was probably just imagining things. CROSS CUT EXT. CEMETERY-MEDIUM SHOT SETH Seth is staggering forward towards the camera. The camera trucks back with his pace as he has to use many of the tombstones to keep from falling. Behind Seth, William slowly creeps up, holding the shovel ready to swing it like a bat. After a few steps with William behind Seth, William drops out of sight, but is still behind Seth. Seth’s body is blocking out the sight of William. After a few more steps, A hand reaches up and falls onto Seth’s shoulder. EXT. CEMETERY-WILLIAM’S POV It should be dark, and the back of Seth’s head needs to be in heavy shadows. He pulls Seth around to face him. The camera cuts away before he sees Seth’s face. EXT. CEMETERY-REACTION SHOT WILLIAM’S FACE His face goes from the anger of finding an intruder to sheet white terror. He becomes wide-eyed with terror. EXT. CEMETERY-FULL SHOT WILLIAM He starts to back away from Seth in fear. He is scared near the point of insanity to see the man he just buried that day, standing there before him.
William I....I....I...just..buried You. Yoourr...er....dead.
EXT. CEMETERY-MEDIUM SHOT SETH Seth hunches over in a flash of pain. He is forced down to one knee, breathing harshly into the pain in a way that imitates a woman in labor. EXT. CEMETERY-CLOSE UP SETH’S FACE Reaction shot as he looks down at himself with wincing eyes and in an intensive amount of pain. EXT. CEMETERY-MEDIUM SHOT SETH Then in a flash Seth is looking up, still in pain. He is squinting his eyes, hunger driven, he sees the food that can quench his hunger. The one thing that will make the pain go away. He lunges forward. EXT. CEMETERY-FULL SHOT PROFILE OF SETH AND WILLIAM Seth lunges for William, and close’s the distance fast while William is some what in shock. William just stands there, shovel in hand. It’s lost to him, like the rubber that has become his legs. EXT. CEMETERY-CLOSE UP SETH’S ARM. Seth blocks the wooden part of the shovel. Then he slips his arm over and around the shovel in a move to pull it from William. EXT. CEMETERY-MEDIUM SHOT SETH He stands there, smiling at William as he is tosses away the shovel with his left arm, and with his right arm he starts to lunge at the William (camera). His eyes are cold, emotionless, hungry, and black as coal. There is no more life left in them. EXT. CEMETERY-MEDIUM CLOSE UP BACK OF WILLIAM’S HEAD Seth’s hand grabs the back of William’s head and thrusts it down-implying that it is to hit against a nearby tombstone. EXT. CEMETERY-MEDIUM SHOT WILLIAM FRAMED LEFT WITH TOMBSTONE TO RIGHT. Slow motion as William is falling to the side of the tombstone, in stunned slowness. Only a glimpse of the blood on the tombstone before the camera continues in a medium shot of him as he hits the ground face up. CROSS CUT EXT. CAR-MEDIUM CLOSE UP PROFILE SETH-NIGHT shot duration 1 sec. Seth driving with rain beating down on the windshield INT. CAR-SETH’S POV-NIGHT shot duration 1 sec. Seth is trying to watch the road as the rain pours, and the wipers whip furiously. EXT. GAS STATION-FULL SHOT SETH CENTER His car framed to his left, and the pumps to his right. He is watching as a man is running out of the gas station. The shot starts off with him pumping gas, but then with a sound he looks up suddenly towards the gas station. EXT. GAS STATION-SETH’S POV A man comes running out of the gas station and right up to Seth. As the man nears Seth he pulls out a gun EXT. GAS STATION-EXTREME CLOSE UP GUN The gun as it is pointed at Seth’s head. Nothing else is in focus. Just the gun. CROSS CUT EXT CEMETERY-EXTREME CLOSE UP SETH’S EYE The camera starts to pull back from the eye to see Seth in the present. EXT. CEMETERY-FULL SHOT SETH William is on Seth’s knees, as Seth had been “feeding”. Seth lets go, and pushes William off of him. Seth is crying as he reaches both his hands to his forehead, hoping this is a dream, but also to explore, and to find out if it is true. EXT. CEMETERY-CLOSE UP SETH’S FACE Seth pulls his hands away from his forehead, and there is now a gun shot hole now being able to be see on his forehead. He looks up around the cemetery. EXT. CEMETERY-MEDIUM SHOT AS SETH STANDS EXT. CEMETERY-VARIOUS SHOTS AS OTHER UNDEAD ARE STARTING TO STAND FROM THEIR GRAVES THE END
