Halloween
The Origins
Where did Halloween come from. One of the greatest horror movies ever made,
and completely opened the door to the slasher film sub-genre. What was the
brain child behind it, though.
Well after John Carpenter made the movie "Assualt on Precinct 13" it was
released through Turtle Releasing, who was owned by Irwin Yablans. Well
it was Yablans who realized the genius of John Carpenter, and Yablans told
Carpenter of his idea of a movie about a psychopath who stalked babysitters.
It was origionaly given the working title "The Babysitter Murders." It wasn't
until the idea brewed for a little longer that Yablans called up Carpenter
saying why not set it on Halloween night, and call it Halloween.
They brought in Moustapha Akkad to finance the picture. He used the money that
had left over from his previous film, and he was at first, worried about signing
on to the project. It was only the fact that John Carpenter had conveyed the
story to Akkad in a suspensful way and almost exactly scene for scene that
Akkad had felt comfortable enough to say yes.
John Carpenter was signed on and paid 10,000 to write, direct, and conduct the theme
for Halloween, as well as to recieve ten percent of the profits. I bet he
is still benefiting from that deal.
