THE FOLLOWING ARE MY ANIMALS...Wylie, the mother, and her six 8 wk old pups, and michael our cat (the other cats did not want to be bothered (smile))

The pups from above have grown to big pups over the past few months. We were fortunate to find a home for the puppys including ourselves, since we decided to keep Diamond. He had to go through some extensive surgery, for like being any little child, he ate something off the ground and had got it lodged in his throat. With my husbands help, that was the day he learned to do cpr procedures, he was able to clear the passageway since his fingers were longer than mine and although Diamond had, we thought, breathed his last breath, we were determined to keep him. So, as unusual as it may seem, I did mouth to nose on the puppy, which consquently brought him back to breathing and allowed us to get him to the veternarian some 15 minutes away, who did an x-ray and found he had something plastic lodged in his stomach as well as something else. One reminder, always remember around puppies , little objects need to be picked up. Unfortanetly, we did not know it was there since he had went under the car. We thought he had tried to eat a rock since his father had done that from time to time (yes strange). The vet had to go in and do surgery on him when he was only eight weeks old, so needless to say he became the "runt" of the crowd. But, at almost 8 months old now, he weighs nearly 75 pounds and is a big baby...he thinks hes human sometimes. Anyway, we found a home for all the pups, before doing that they had gotten their shots, been dewormed, and even received a heart worm pill, and of course, their rabie shots. We were not concerned about the cost, since we knew it needed to be done and we felt it was best to get them on the right track. We decided to put an ad up in the vet office and in the local newspapers. We immeaditly found a home for Sapphire, thru the help of the veternairan. My brother-in-law and his wife took Spot, who looks full blooded chow with the exception of his teeth they look more like a sheperds. Sheeba went to a nice family, whom I see from time to time and is doing well also. Moe went to a nice woman who is a friend of my husbands grandmother, he has also gotten large and honrey. Back in early 1999 we had thought we had found a responsible home for Lucky, this turned out not to be true. I believe it was anywhere from April to May when I found her wandering the streets here in our little town and the owner NOT to be found anywhere! I found his place of employment and gave them a call, just in case she had gotten loose and they didn't know about it- he never returned my calls. We took her to the veternarian, especially after some of the awful things I had heard, that he kicked her, did not feed her and constantly let her roam around. The vet confirmed our suspicions, Lucky was indeed pregnant, with at least four pups. I am not one for terminating pregancies, however, she was MUCH too young , not even a year then, and the recommended thing was termination because of factors: 1.) she would not have lived thru the delivery, 2.)her pups would not survive the delivery or 3.)none would survive. We did the most loving thing we could do and opted for her to stay living and we had her fixed. We have her to this day and I must say she and her brother are happy they have someone to play with. It took a little while for her to come around after the abuse, but since she knew I helped to raise them, she trusted me more than she did any man,but fortunately that is not true to this day- she LOVES the attention she and her brother get. Fortunately there was a happy ending, but there is always that question, what if we hadn't found her??????
I think of these puppies often, since they were like my children...I took care of them since they were two days old. Wylie, was our landlords dog so she kept her on the farm. And Joe, in December just before Christmas, passed away. He was a large black lab with a hint of chow in him, and weighed nearly 150 lbs and on his hind paws, at my height of 5'3", he was equal to me if not a bit taller. Well, I thought I would bring you up to date with how the pups had been doing.

A LITTLE NOTE TO ALL OF THOSE OUT THERE...IF YOU ARE GOING TO HAVE PETS AND GET THEM WHEN THEY ARE SMALL SUCH AS KITTENS OR PUPPYS..PLEASE REMEMBER THAT THEY DO GROW UP TO BE CATS AND DOGS..THEY ALSO ARE LIKE CHILDREN AND LATER ADULTS- SAME EMOTIONS WANTING HUGGED, LOVED AND PLAYED WITH..AND WHATEVER YOU DO DONT PUT THEM OUT ON THE COUNTRY ROAD SOMEWHERE IN HOPES THAT SOMEONE ELSE WILL TAKE THEM IN...IT DOESNT ALWAYS WORK THAT WAY! JUST STOP AND THINK...IF YOUR PET DIDNT WANT YOU ANYMORE..WOULD YOU WANT TO BE PUT OUT ON THE ROAD SOMEWHERE AND HOPE THAT SOMEONE FEEDS YOU AND TAKES YOU IN? I KNOW I WOULDNT...SO , JUST STOP AND THINK... CERTAIN ANIMALS WERE NOT BORN TO BE WILD.....JUST THINK IT OVER ...... REMEMBER TO HAVE YOUR ANIMALS VACCINATED...
