Issue #1Angel's First Editorial:I came out to my closest friend, Violet, who is also gay, of NOVA (now known as RemorseCodeBlues). We talked for a while and I asked her how religion factored into my lifestyle. She said that she really didn't think God cared if I was gay or not. So I did some research, and in HERO magazine was a section called Youth Out Proud! with some surprising stats. For 40% (of the people who responded to the survey) being gay has caused them to question their religion. 29% changed their religious affiliation, or abandoned religion altogether, with Roman Catholics leading the exodus (33%). At home, their parents' beliefs can make it difficult to be open -- nearly 40% say it's been a factor...49% say that they "have no doubt" that God loves them just as they are and that they just "don't believe that God cares one way or another if they are gay." I found that interesting. In my religion, it's a terreble sin to be gay. Hell, fire, and damnation. A lady at my church will quote scripture for hours on end about the "evils of homosexuality" In my opinion, since Jesus will clear your sins away if you ask him, and he did say "love your neighbor as yourself", and the man died for us, I know he really doesn't care if I'm gay. ***Survey info from HERO magazine's Premiere Issue.
