Business Week 2003

Business Week at the W!
This summer June 1-6, I was honored to get to be an Educator at the Mississippi University for Women's Business Week. The camp was divided into 8 different companies and I was the leader over company 8. I had a wonderful group of 8 great kids...although kids isn't really the right word to use. My group was all heading into the 10th grade from all over Mississippi. I had the best week teaching about different aspects of Economics. It was a little bit frightening at first considering that the directors would not let the Educators prepare lessons for our groups. They thought that it would be fair to all the groups if we learned along with them. Although half of the time we was unsure of ourselves, we still had a blast the week we got to spend together!

The object of our company.
The Business Week was divided into 4 companies of 8th and 9th grade students and 4 of 10th grade students and those who had attended Business Week before. of the 4 older companies which included mine, we had to do a computer simulation learning game called Macroland. In this simulation we had to create a country and decide what our government spent, what the tax rate was going to be, and what the inflation rate was going to be set at in each quarter of each year in our presidental terms. The companies had to decide how to balance all of these different economic traits of their country in order to maintain a healthy government. Each time they changed it, they had to watch things such as unemployment, GDP, and their economic discomfort level. They also had to come up with their own economic policies for their country. Even though our company didn't win the overall game, we did win for best economic policy and best web design!! I was super proud of my great group!!

The object of our company.
My company decided to name our country Zoom. This counrty was located on a tropical island where the climate was always perfect. In Zoom, our national anthem was "Zoom, Zoom, Zoom" from the Mazda commercial. One of our major industries in Zoom was, of course, a Mazda plant. Where we were the first to create the new computerized hovercraft Mazda 626. In this car, you are just a passanger since it has a computerized map system that is voice activated and will take you where you want to go. Also, if you are driving along and want a beverage, just tell it what you want because it is programmed with beverages of your choice. Also, you can tell it what kind of music you want to listen to without having to fumble through all your CD's or finding a radio station you like. Our second major industry was a toliet paper company called Island Breeze. Our brand was 4-ply strong with a special combination of lotion and aloe, and was coconut scented! Also, some of our main policies was that in Zoom, the hours was no longer called hours but zooms, everyone was only allowed to dress in bright, bold colors, and sandels, and showerheads in houses must be installed at no shorter than 6 foot. We had a lot of fun coming up with all these wild policies.
