Be forewarned, Gummo is not the story of the fifth Marx Brother. Its nominal plot concerns two deviant Ohio teens who procure stray cats for a local Chinese restaurant. In their picaresque wanderings, these wayward youths bed a retarded whore supplied to them by a local pimp [Max Perlich], sniff glue and arm - wrestle with assorted racist trailer trash. A P.O.V. is nowhere in sight, except perhaps among the hapless felines destined to end up as entree #58 on the take - out menu. The movie ceaselessly explores a chancrous underbelly of middle-American life, but "why" is never clear. See it with someone you loathe.
