The Commoner’s Point of View

By: Bill McKay

The past several months have been chaos for news reporters all trying to get the inside scoop on the Clinton scandal. Everywhere you turn, you see something with the names Clinton, Lewinsky, or Starr on it. The constant wondering of “did he do it” and finally the “yes, he did it” had our opinions going back and forth. Ladies and gentlemen of America, it is official. We’re sick of it!

William Clinton:

Our, at one time and maybe still, beloved president. Clinton was elected to his first term in 1992 and to his second in 1996. He is of the Democratic Party and a native of Arkansas. All in all, he has been your average president.

However, there have been some complaints about our president. They state that he has “fast hands” and that he likes his interns just a little bit too much. For a while, Clinton denied it. However, after months of torture, he finally confessed to doing some bad things with a lady who wasn’t known as Mrs. Clinton.

-My thoughts

Granted, he did lie to the country and even to his wife, but is he really impeachment material? Would you go on nation-wide television and tell your family, friends, and your fellow citizens that you were fooling around on the misses? Maybe it’s just me, but I think that that takes some guts. I don’t think I could have done it. But, after a while, he told the truth. Now that it’s all out in the open, why can’t our government stop spending our money on this case?

Monica Lewinsky:

Until then, I thought he had better taste. By the way, who “saves” a dirty dress for a year and never washes it? I don’t know what this woman was thinking, and I personally don’t want to know.

-My thoughts:

My philosophy on Monica is that it takes two to tango. He is not the only culprit behind this scandal. Somewhere in there, she went along for the ride, too.

Kenneth Starr:

This poor man has nothing better to do with his time than to write a two million-page summary on X-rated topics. If I had spare time like he must have, I could have a full time job and a college scholarship.

-My thoughts:

Kenneth Starr needs to take a nice, long vacation. He needs to take a week or two off from ridiculing and degrading the man that has run our country for six years and that has our country for two more. Let’s just leave well enough alone.

Punishments:

For President Clinton, I don’t think impeachment is essential. I think that he has run our country this long just fine, why not a couple more years? Besides, the president will someday endure a punishment far worse than impeachment. He will have to answer to God for his mistakes and sins.

For Monica Lewinsky, I personally believe that she should be banned from any country that has only one main executive. I figure that, this way, if she has to flirt with anyone, she’ll have a whole Congress or whatnot of people to reject her flirtatious moves rather than just one man falling under her spell.

For Kenneth Starr, a retirement would be good. This way, American citizens would know that no lawyer is plotting against our leader or at least no lawyer that is a professional at plotting against our leader.

We, as American citizens, should face the facts. Yes, our president lied. However, I dare you to name any president, or any person in general, that has never lied before. Once again, though, Clinton was under oath, but I re-address the question: “Would you go on nation-wide television and admit you made a horrible mistake?” Let’s just let the man run our country the way it should be run.
