Does this sound familiar? "There's nothing to do in Lexington." " Well, we don't have anything in our town." " I'm so bored!" If you really think about it, we do live in a great little town. Although it may seem like Lexington has nothing to offer, there are many advantages to living here.
The streets are very safe and you can go out longer and not have the worries that you would in Chicago or even Bloomington-Normal. It is clean and attractive and has those cute small town activities. The people and city workers seem to take a lot of pride in what they do. Lexington was acknowledged in the Pantagraph and has received compliments from all it's visitors.
Our largest activity is the Taste of Country Fair, which attracts everyone from near and far, because they know how well it is run and what quality attractions are there. Other events include Christmas on the Prairie, the Carnival in June and constant sporting events. Everyone loves watching our teams achieve in Track, Volleyball, Basketball, Baseball, Football, etc. The school system is one of the best around and the students score so high.
Though we often hear those common phrases, " What does our town have in it?" Besides the usual things like a post office, bank, restaurant and gas station, we also have a community center, little craft shops and a thriving downtown business area. For being a small town, you have to admit that we have the necessities and more. There's the fun stuff like the pool and parks, which are soon expanding to have even better things.
It is a fact that we don't have a movie theater and a mall and a bunch of fast food restaurants, but there are a ton more things in Bloomington. Anything we don't have is just a quick 15-20 minute drive away. So, we get a small, quiet place to live and a big city for the loud, fun and exciting things in life. So, open your eyes next time you think you're bored and see all the great things Lexington has to offer!
