Losing Yourself

I recently encountered
A friend who walked in shame
An unending nightmare
That lit this persons flame

A greatly shining, luminous light
Shown through her opaque, darkening soul
Lurking in the shadows was one
Who would distort her dream
Into to an evil shun

Hope had become nigh
Letting out a black sigh
Rose the diversion
That would cause all faith to die

Merely effort
Could not seal this disease
Shame lies too deep
To put the heart straight to ease

Sitting in the lap of rejection
She rose to tell all
To a secret impression
Of her heartfelt inspection
The force of emotions
Poured out of her veins
Her blood turned to pearl
And her flesh expressed the same

Overcoming the odds
Was not accomplished by love
Help was reckoned
From a force up above
