MY BLACK DINNER GOWN

A beautiful black dinner gown with lavender ribbon roses to compliment it. This is another of my own creations.

This gown is designed with beautiful soft black satin for the underdress. I used an overlay of black silk chiffon. This silk chiffon has an interesting design of gold leaf motifs. This adds much glamour to just a black gown.

There is no zipper in this gown. It is entirely held together with hooks and eyes. This was much of what was used in the Titanic era. The gown is a wrap around design. The overlay gathers in the front bottom of the skirt in a pointed fashion.. It also gathers to a pointed pattern in the back in the same manner as the front. The overlay covers the bodice top and as it tapers down the front and back the soft black satin is seen.

This black Dinner Gown has a train that forms a point. There are weights the three sides so the train remains straight when walking. There is also a wrist loop added for dancing after dinnertime. The gown is fully lined which helps the gowns in hanging nicely.

The draped front goes over the shoulder to hook in the back around to the other side of the gown. There is also a bustle that is attached with hooks and eyes. This bustle attached is not shown since the waist band goes around and also hooks with hooks and eyes. This hides all attaching hooks and eyes. Sounds complicated, but it does work out really well. I can't see this gown on someone like Rose, because it is for an older person. I could see it on someone like Rose's mother, or another prominent person going to dinner on the Titanic.

To accent the gown, I used wire deep lavender ribbon. This ribbon was twisted into roses which were added to the points of each drawn taper. I used several to each point, making it rather eye catching. The ribbon roses were also added to the waistline on the left side of the gown. I also used green wire ribbon to form leaves and small berries were made from a deep rose wire ribbon on stems that were also of ribbon.

To accessorize the gown, long black gloves are in order. There is also a black choker with a gold broach and pink stone. The matching ear rings are the gold with pink stones. The handbag is made from the same black satin covered with silk chiffon that has gold motif leaves adorning it.

This is a beautiful gown, which would have been an eye opener at dinner on the Titanic.
