This is a photo of the actual Boarding or Travel Suit worn by Rose in the movie.
For boarding the Titanic this gorgeous suit would make a huge statement. Especially the
large brimmed hat. How elegant this ansamble is. I could certainly see a young woman like
Rose wearing this. The way she carried herself, and the look in her eyes. Yes, this certainly was
a young woman wanting to make an impression of someone that was society indeed. This gorgeous suit origainally calls for navy striped linen. The different play of stripes
and horizontal design of the suit, makes this a very interesting combination. The jacket is a double breasted design with satin collar, belt and buttons. The skirt has
two kick pleats in the back accented with navy satin buttons at the top of each pleat. There is a flounce added to the skirt and the direction of the stripes also show nicely
there. The flounce was very popular during that era. The skirt could be open a bit more for
comfort, in walking, but the legs did not show. This was an important feature to women in
that era of time. There is a satin cuff added to the gloves along with three rows of hand embroidery with
sewn on pearls. The handbag is also matching with the satin fabric, along with the navy satin. The "Statement Hat" that is an eye catcher was designed by my friend, Lady Cynthia. Satin was sent to her to match the dying
of the hat. Then the bows were added. There are three large bows on the left side and two
large bows on the right. The rest of the satin fabric from the bows drape around to the back of
the hat. OH YES, the hat weighs around five pounds. The white shirt-blouse is accented with lavendar embroidery around the collar, down the
front lapels and also along the edges of the cuffs. A black tie is accented by a gold broach. The shoes were dyed lavender and also there is an umbrella, for those "just in case" of
rainy days. The jewelry that is worn with this suit is the broach on the tie, and also tiny dove
ear rings with an amethest stone in each. These ear rings are a reproduction of those worn by
Rose in the movie.
