This is a photo of the actual Deck Gown worn by Rose in Titanic. Unfortunately, I was unable to obtain a back view of this gown.
The Deck Gown was really a challenge since I really had no pattern to go by. I used part of one pattern for the bodice, but had to improvise that. Also, in the movie, there was no real view of the bottom of the gown. I watched over and over, and this is what I came up with. I think that it is a very close version of the original gown.
The skirt is made from yellow satin crepe, and the bodice is made from cream satin crepe. The underbodice is made from white silk chiffon. The trim was a bit of a problem, but this turned out well. The gown is accented with a wide yellow satin belt. I found an antique belt buckel that works well and adds a special touch. A wide sash drapes over the back of the belt, hanging down the skirt of the gown. The back of the gown was a bit hard to see, so I added a bustle that fits under the belt and is secured with hooks and eyes. This is hidden by the belt and the hooked belt is hidden by the sash. The gown is also accented with lace at the sleeves, and around the neckline, along with white seed pearls.
This gown is also complimented with covered buttons of satin fabric down the back. White, then changing to yellow at the waistline.
This is a very comfortable gown to wear. Also, I have matching handbag, shoes, and with this gown.
These photos were taken at one of my Titanic style shows. I do many, so there will be more photos to follow of these showings
