ROSE'S FLYING GOWN

MY FLYING GOWN

I created two versions of this gown. They were both made from beautiful rich Midnight Blue Velvet and the skirts were made from blue satin. The gown is actually two separate pieces.

The tunic top is made from the deep blue velvet. The collar, satin on the sleeves, and the wide waistband is made from the blue satin. The lapels on one of the tops I used white lace motifs to accent. I cut the motifs out by hand, sewing them onto the lapels by hand. Of course, this was not how the actual Flying Gown was made. So, I made another.

On the second top I hand embroideried the lapels. That was as the original was made. This is the version that I choose for showings. It is the closest to the original. The wide satin belt is tied in the back in a square knot. The remaining of the belt falls gracefully down below onto the skirt of the gown. This is a beautiful gown. The buttons on the tunic top are also covered with the blue satin as well. There are also deep navy tassels that hang from each corner of the top. There are four corners to this tunic top. These gown top is referred to as the peplum top.

The skirt of this gown is drawn up on the side, which really gives it a beautiful look. There is also a sewn in flounce on the side. NO showing of the legs in those times. The satin material of this gown is so graceful and soft. My gowns are also fully lined. This also makes the satin hang very nicely.

With this gown, I have a beautiful shawl that I created from ivory crushed velvet. The edges are adorned with silk fringe. I am constantly in search of material to recreate the origianl look of the shawl that Rose wore.

The handbag that I created for this is made from ivory crushed velvet. I added a hand crocheted motif on each side of the bag.. The handbag was then accented with the same ivory silk fringe that I used on the shawl. This handbag is a drawstring fashion which seemed to be very popular in that era.

The accessories that I have also include a recreated Butterfly Hair Comb from the J.Peterman Company. This I was lucky enough to get from Ebay on auction. This is a beautiful recreation of the original butterly hair comb worn by Rose. This is a lovely butterfly that accents the hair beautifully. And of course, I have the"Heart of the Ocean" necklace as well. I do have the recreated jewely that Rose actually wore in the movie with the Flying Gown though. The necklace that Rose wore was a small gold pendant accented with a blue topaz gemstone. The ear rings are small pearl drop ear rings.

Jewelry, including the J. Peterman's Butterfly Hair Comb, Dinner Necklace and ear rings, Heart of the Ocean, Jump Gown Jewelry, Flying Gown Jewelry and other items will be displayed on my Treasures Page....when it is finished. I will be adding that link soon.

This is a photo that was used for the local newspapers. The local cities decided to do an artical on me. They all referred to me as "The Titanic Lady".
