Weeks went by and obviously things got hectic at work. For me, that was bittersweet—sweet because I like to keep myself occupied and I had fun with what I was doing; bitter at times because I didn’t have any stopping sense. I had a little office to myself where I could do my work and I kept my door open most of the time. But one day the crew had to move a lot of things around the set and the noise became very distracting. So I closed the door and continued doing sketches of some costumes for the following week’s episode.
Hours went by and then it was time to go. Liz came by to invite me out to dinner with her, the guys, and some of the crew. I asked that she would give me about five more minutes to finish what I was doing, so she closed the door and talked with Peter for a while. A few minutes later, I hear a knock at the door. I said, “Come in. Liz, I’m sorry to keep you waiting for dinner. Looks like you’re gonna have to go without me.” I heard someone come in and close the door—but it wasn’t Liz I was talking to. It was Davy! I didn’t know it until I heard the reply: “Oh no…we can’t let that happen…” I turned around, surprised, and said, “Oh—Davy—it’s you! I thought it was Liz.”
“No, not really. But I just need to get two more sketches done and I promise I’ll leave.”
He looked at me as if to say, “Tsk, tsk, tsk.” Then he came closer to me and said, “Alicia, put your pencil down.”
“Davy, come on! I just need to do two more sket…”
Before I could finish the word ‘sketches’, he took the pencil out of my hand and threw it on the desk. Then I got a little upset and started to tell him off, but he put his finger on my lips and said, “Shhh…“Don’t tell me you’ve turned into a workaholic now…”
He turned me around and began massaging my lower back, working his way up to my shoulders. Of course, when he was midway, I melted inside because the massage felt so good—I didn’t realize how much I need that! While he was working on my shoulders, he said, “Your muscles are so tense! Right now you need to relax. Stop what you’re doing and come with me to dinner.”
Well, after receiving one of the best massages I’ve ever had, how could I resist? I turned around and said, “Okay, I surrender! (He put his arm around me and escorted me outside the room where Liz and the rest were waiting)…Thanks for that wonderful massage! I really needed that.” He smiled and said, “You’re very welcome.”
So finally we all leave for dinner at Chez Elle, a really nice down-to-earth restaurant. In Chez Elle, they had lots of booths that accompanied eight people. On one side (starting inside and moving out) sat Micky, me, Mike, and Sunny. On the other side sat Liz, Peter, Valleri, and David. While we were waiting for our orders to arrive, we started talking about different things like music, books and politics . Micky was talking to me about how things were on the set today when they were shooting “Your Friendly Neighborhood Kidnappers”; Mike was talking to Sunny about something—I forget what. Anyway, there were times throughout their conversation…as a matter of fact, almost a hundred times…when Sunny would be looking at Davy out of interest, but he ignored her completely because he was checking me out! (This is what Liz told me at one point when we were in the restroom.) Then when Micky started teasing about how long it was taking the waiter to bring out the food (we just ordered a couple of minutes ago), he put his head on my shoulder and made like he was about to go to sleep. I was laughing and said, “Micky, come on. Wake up,” as I was shrugging the shoulder he was leaning on. This went on for about a minute or so and then Mike said teasingly, “All right, Micky—cool it.(sigh ) Man…talk about leaving a lasting impression on somebody…” Sunny said in agreement, “I’ll say…” while she was looking at Davy (as he was looking at Micky with a tinge of jealousy). Of course, she was really referring to the fact that she resented the way Davy was paying so much attention to me and not her at all. Then she cleared her throat, trying to get Davy’s attention. She did.
Davy asked, “Excuse me?” thinking that she said something that he missed.
Sunny said, “Well, for starters you haven’t said anything to me since we’ve been here…”
Teasingly, he said, “Anything…(he laughs)…Just kidding, Sunny. Just gotta lot of things on my mind, that’s all.”
She murmured, “Yeah, like that bitch over there…”
“What was that?” Davy said.
Sunny replied, “I said, ‘Yeah, I’d like that pitcher (of water) over there…please.”
So he passes the pitcher of water to her, and by that time, the waiter arrives with the food. Moments went by and now we’re eating dessert. Sunny excused herself from the table, saying that she needed to take Trina, he sister, someplace—anything she could think of to get away from the scene that was tearing her apart. Peter and Liz shared a banana split; Valleri got a float; Micky had a sundae; Mike had a Neopolitan ice cream sandwich; I had a slice of cake with coconut frosting; and Davy had ordered plain strawberries with a little bowl of chocolate syrup. Valleri was talking to Micky about some funny moments from the show; Liz and Peter were getting to know each other; and Mike, Davy and I were talking to each other about the music groups we liked and didn’t like. As I was eating my slice of cake, Mike got up to go to the jukebox and pick a song. While he did that, I looked up and Davy said to me, “Go like this…(he licked his upper lip).” So I did—it turned out that I had some coconut frosting there.
“Thank you,” I said. “Would you like some cake? It’s really good.”
“No thanks, but here’s something you oughta try…” Davy said. He then switched places with Mike and asks him, “Do you mind?” Mike said, “No, go ahead.”
Davy looks at me and continues, “Some strawberries dipped in chocolate! It’s delicious…”
I said, “It does look good,” as he dips one in syrup.
He said, “Here we go…” and he put his left hand under my chin and fed me the strawberry. “You like?”
I nodded my head in agreement and looked at him. “Mmm, I love…I’ve never had one dipped in chocolate before.” I paused and then he, Mike, and I said in unison, “Until now!” and we laughed.
