~Dyin of a Broken Heart - Part 3~

Micky walked up to Holly’s front door carrying a bouquet of wild flowers and knocked. It was a small house not far from her office. “Hi.” She opened the door with a smile.

“These are for you.” He handed the flowers to her.

“They’re beautiful.” Her cheeks turned a light pink. “Please come in.”

He walked through the door and looked around. The house seemed to fit her. It was incredibly neat but felt lived in and homey. “Is this where you grew up?”

“No.” She came out of the kitchen carrying the flowers in a vase and set them down on the coffee table. “My parents own a horse ranch about 20 minutes outside of town. I moved here so I could be close to the office.”

“Do you ride?” He asked.

“Of course.” She laughed. “You don’t grow up around here and not know how to ride. Do you?”

“I know how, but I don’t get to very often.” He held up her jacket for her as she slipped into it.

“Maybe we can go this weekend.” They walked out the door and she closed it behind her. “My parents would love it.”

“I would too.” He smiled and took her hand. “Where would you like to go for dinner? The only place I know is the hotel diner.”

“That sounds good.” They walked down the sidewalk towards town. “There’s another restaurant in the next town but we would have to drive. I’d rather walk, it’s such a nice evening.”

At the hotel restaurant, they sat down at a window table facing the main street of town. Over cheeseburgers and fries, they talked and laughed until the diner closed and the waitress kicked them out. They slowly strolled back to Holly’s house hand in hand.

“I had a really good time.” Holly stood on the stoop to her house, both her hands holding Micky’s.

“Me too.” He smiled. “I do want to apologize again for asking Mrs. Brown about you. I invaded your privacy and I’m sorry.”

“Please don’t.” She gave his hands a squeeze. “I should apologize to you for blowing up that way. Ever since I moved back here, it feels like the whole town knows every tidbit of my life. I’m sorry I yelled at you.”

He smiled, “I promise not to go digging into your private life anymore. You don’t have to tell me anything you don’t want to.”

"Thank you.” She returned his smile. “Would you still like to go riding at my parents’ ranch on Saturday?”

“Yes.” He leaned forward and gently brushed his lips against hers.

“I’ll pick you up in the morning.” She blushed. “Good night, Micky.”

“Good night, doc.” He waited until she was inside and then left.
