~A Little Bit Me, A Little Bit You - Part 4~

Holly brought Michael over to Micky’s house the next day. “The place looks good.” She looked around.

“Thanks.” He smiled proudly. “There’s still a lot of stuff I need to do, but the major work is done.”

She took Michael out of his car seat and then handed him to Micky. “There are plenty of diapers, bottles and clothes in here.” She opened the diaper bag. “And I brought some of his favorite toys and books. He still sleeps a lot, so you shouldn’t have any problems.”

“We’re gonna be just fine.” He rocked back and forth. “I bought one of those portable cribs.”

“You didn’t have to do that.” She looked at him.

“I wanted to, doc. He’s my son.” He smiled.

“I’m happy that you want to be with him.” She looked away quickly. “I should go. I’ll be back around five. Call if you need anything.”

“I will.” He walked her to the door. “Drive safe, we’re supposed to get snow this afternoon.”

----------------------------------------

It had been a long time since Micky had taken care of a baby, but it all came back. He feed him, changed his diapers, read to him, played with him and they even took a nap together on the couch. They sat together at the window watching the snow fall and waiting for Holly. He heard on the radio that they were in for a blizzard and he hoped Holly would be all right.

By the time she arrived, there was already two feet of snow on the ground and it showed no signs of letting up. “I’m so sorry I’m late.” She came in the door covered in snow. “The roads are pretty bad.”

“I think you should stay here tonight.” He looked out the window. “It’s getting worse.”

“No, we’ll be okay. Where’s Michael?” She asked brushing off her coat.

“He’s sleeping.” He answered and then looked at her. “I really think you should stay.”

“And I said we would be okay.” She restated.

“Look, doc, I’ve got plenty of room and food.” He walked to her and put his hands on her shoulders. “I’m not gonna let you go out in this weather. Please stay.”

She looked up at him and smiled. “Okay.”

“Good.” He could feel himself leaning towards her so he moved away quickly. “I’ll start a fire.”

“Right.” She said disappointed. “I’ll go check on Michael.”

----------------------------------------

They fed Michael and then had dinner themselves. Afterwards, they sat on the floor and played with him until it was bedtime. Micky sang him a lullaby and they both watched him sleep for a few minutes.

“Do you want a glass of wine?” Micky asked as they walked back into the living room.

“Yes, please.” Holly sat down in front of the fire.

He brought out a bottle and two glasses and sat down next to her. “I’m glad you decided to stay.” He handed her a glass.

“You didn’t give me much choice.” She laughed.

“Its nice having…I just didn’t want anything to happen to either of you.” He fumbled.

“What are you going to do about work?” She changed the subject.

“I’m going to try and space it out so I don’t have to be gone too long at one time.” He watched the fire. “I want to be around as much as I can. I didn’t get to do that with my girls when they were little. I don’t want to make that mistake again.”

“You were a good father to your girls.” She put her hand on his arm. “And I know you’re going to be a good father to Michael.”

“Thank you.” He looked over at her and his eyes locked with hers. They sparkled in the firelight. “God, you’re beautiful.” He whispered.

“Micky, I’m…” She started.

“We should get some sleep.” He stood up quickly.

“Mick, please.” She stood in front of him. “I need to say this.”

“What?”

“I am so sorry that I didn’t tell you about Michael. I never meant to hurt you. I love you.” Her eyes pleaded with him to understand. “The whole time I was pregnant, I wanted to tell you. Every night I would lie in bed wishing you were next to me holding me and rubbing my stomach.”

“Then why didn’t you tell me?” He asked softly.

Her eyes filled with tears. “I was afraid you wouldn’t come back. That you wouldn’t want me or our baby.”

“How could you think that?” He took her by the shoulders.

“You were a thousand miles away. I didn’t know what to think.” She sniffled.

“I was in love with you.” He stated.

“And now?” She asked carefully.

"I’m still in love you, doc.” Micky pulled away from her and walked to the other side of the room. “You’re all I’ve thought about for the past year. All I still think about.”

“But?” Holly watched him.

“I’m scared.” He looked out the window. “My luck with women isn’t good. This is the longest relationship I’ve had since my second wife. I wanted to be with you from the second that I saw you. But I never expected to fall in love with you.”

“I never expected that to happen either.” She walked to him and put her hands on his shoulders. “But I am in love with you and that will never change. Can we start again?”

He turned around and took her in his arms holding her tight. “Yes.” He kissed her long and soft then pulled her to the floor where they made love in front of the fire.

----------------------------------------

The snow had stopped sometime during the night. Outside was a blanket of snow covering everything and glistening in the sunlight. Micky leaned against the doorjamb drinking and cup of coffee and watching Holly feed their son. He reached into his pocket and felt the engagement ring he had bought for her.

“There is something I’ve been meaning to ask you since I got back here.” He said casually.

She looked up and saw the gleam in his eyes. “What?”

He walked over and bent down beside her. “Will you marry me?”

She watched him take the ring out of his pocket. “Its beautiful. You bought that before you knew about Michael?”

“Yes.” He smiled, looking down at the baby. “He only sweetens the deal. I want us to be a family.”

“I love you, Micky.” Tears sprang to her eyes.

“Is that a yes?” He chuckled slipping the ring on her finger.

She kissed him passionately. “Yes.”

THE END!
